Man Cave Happy Hour
We Blind-Tasted Buffalo Trace And Picked A Surprise Favorite
What happens when you line up four Buffalo Trace pours—two store barrel picks and two standard releases—and taste them blind? We set the table with numbered glasses, a few strong opinions, and a lot of curiosity, then let our palates do the talking. The result: clear favorites, a couple of surprises, and a deeper respect for how consistency and character can both shine in a bourbon lineup.
We start with a nod to Detroit’s evolving scene, from a hidden speakeasy behind a cooler door to the energy pulsing through neighborhood spots. Then we pay tribute to Freddie Johnson, the beloved Buffalo Trace storyteller whose family promise and warmth inspired us to make this a Trace-focused happy hour. Along the way, we unpack the brand’s roots, from river shipments to Colonel E. H. Taylor’s push for standards, and why that history still matters when you pick a bottle off the shelf today.
The tasting itself is where the fun takes off. One pour hits with extra spice and depth—classic “store pick” swagger. Another leans into the dependable Buffalo Trace profile: balanced caramel, soft oak, a comfortable finish. Side by side, the differences become vivid and personal. We debate whether airline minis differ from 750s, talk proof and palate, and confront the pricing paradox that turns fair MSRPs into chase bottles. Most importantly, we celebrate opening bottles instead of hoarding them—especially when signatures and sales help good causes like cemetery restoration tied to Freddie’s work.
If you love bourbon, Buffalo Trace, Detroit cocktail culture, or you’re just bourbon-curious, this one’s for you. Hit play to hear the full blind reveal, our favorites, and a few travel and community stories that keep the glasses clinking. If you dig the vibe, subscribe, share with a whiskey‑loving friend, and drop your pick for best value bourbon—we’ll shout out our favorite takes next week.

We're gonna drink a fine whiskey and smoke a really fine cigar.
SPEAKER_03:Hey, it's time for Happy Hour, the Man Cave. Happy Hour. Whiskey, cigar, spirits, the stories that go along with it, I would be Jamie Flanagan.
SPEAKER_00:Yes, you would. And that over there would be August Kitchman.
SPEAKER_04:I get to stare across the table at the second one. Yeah, you do, babe. I don't usually get that.
SPEAKER_05:Normally it's an elbow deal.
SPEAKER_03:Lovingly elbow. Lovingly longing across the table. At the top, a couple of things that we need to do. First off, uh like, subscribe, leave a comment, do all the podcast things in all the podcast places. I forget to do that all the time. All the time. Thank you for joining us. Thank you, thank you, thank you for joining us. Uh you're thanking me. Who's here with us? Kat, thank you for joining us. And and the people joining in from afar. Uh, so you're here with us, and and we're putting you to work. Kat, thank you for being here.
SPEAKER_00:You're a flight attendant, yes? Yes. So a little turbulence might happen tonight.
SPEAKER_02:A little bit.
SPEAKER_03:Well, we're in for a bumpy ride. What do you got your cure for a bumpy ride? Can I have a couple more of those, please?
SPEAKER_02:I know those airplane bottles will.
SPEAKER_03:Oh, fair play. All right, so yes. And then uh, but so like, subscribe, leave a comment, all the podcast things. Thank you, thank you, thank you for for being with us. It's fun. People uh we appreciate people uh hanging out, and then the theme song. We were like shaving shenanigans while the theme song was playing. Yeah, and I said the hays were the dulcet tones of Matthew Fox, uh, which which they are. Uh, but our buddy uh Patrick Akerly from Beer on the Penguin uh wrote that and performed that uh one of our early episodes live. We recorded downtown Detroit. Yeah, or upstairs from the hockey town cafe hockey kind of the music uh music cafe podcast cafe thing. Uh so thank you to Pat for recording that for us. That was a rip roaring good time. I think we either talked uh Tony Batou, no uh uh or it was uh uh at that location. Mike Forsyth. We talked to Tony there, and then we talked to Mike Forsyth from Detroit City Distillery. I forget which episode that was that we recorded it live with, but uh it was one of the two. It was like three or four. Rollback. Yeah, we've done several there, but uh this is all PA pre-August. But yeah, so Pat recorded that song for us, and Matthew got to sing on it. Yes, I did. Uh it was it's it's uh it's pretty fabulous. What I really love about that we cut it down to 30 seconds.
SPEAKER_00:No, he wrote that on his drive from home to the studio that day.
SPEAKER_03:He did, he did. He wrote that on the way in.
SPEAKER_04:It was in his head. Not exactly the Beatles. I mean, it's very cool, but don't tell him that.
SPEAKER_03:He wrote it in 10 seconds. Three shit. Three three call three chords, call an answer. I'm in. Yes. Uh it's perfect, it's exactly what you need.
SPEAKER_05:It's the man came at the hour. It's kind of it's not AI generated. No, it's not a human freaking being.
SPEAKER_03:See, I feel bad about that. Like a lot of the cover images and crap that I create, I use AI, and I'm like, should I be using AI? Yeah, should I it's simple stuff, but you're not this isn't like ultimate creative stuff. I mean, yeah, no. Well, tell that to a graphic designer that I'm screwing out of a job by creating covers with AI. So, but yeah, I'm I'm torn about that as a journalism teacher. He should have been a welder. And uh you could AI that there's robots doing that crap now.
SPEAKER_05:It's not really our people are going into blue-collar jobs now, God bless them, because they're afraid their stuff's gonna get replaced by AI.
SPEAKER_03:Yes. Um, but I don't even remember. Oh, but uh, one of those shows we did down at the downtown at the hockey town cafe was Tony Battu. Yes, and our good friend uh Big Tony. Yay tall. He's he's about to be a good thing.
SPEAKER_00:He's about as tall as the bottom, man.
SPEAKER_03:He knows he knows he's uh the wine garden in St. Clair Shores. There is a new uh speakeasy in Detroit, and it's called the Best Kept Secret. And it is tell everybody about it. I'm telling freaking everybody I can mention. No, it's it's amazing. Uh so if you go to the wine garden, say, I'm interested in the best kept secret, I want to get a cocktail. And they'll be like, uh go in the cooler, head on to the back. Answer some questions, and then there's some skill testing questions.
SPEAKER_04:G-I-T-S-C-H-L-A-G. You're in.
SPEAKER_03:Ah, you're in. Uh, but yeah, it's very, very cool. They're open uh Wednesday through Saturday from four to ten-ish. And uh it's like fancy, fancy pants, cocktails. Um, there might be some some chiccuterie involved. Uh not really food, but there might be like, you know, I mean, we were just in that space less than a year ago.
SPEAKER_05:Oh, I know. Yeah, doing a podcast and just the back room full of boo with a wall of booze behind us and right.
SPEAKER_03:There is now there is a a a bigger wall of booze, uh, but it's not free rain like we have quite the same. And it's lit. Yes, like everyone else out.
SPEAKER_05:It's like well lit. Okay, it's nice. Is there a lot of purples and uh and pinks and like neon in there? Is it very Chaldean looking?
SPEAKER_00:Uh it's colorful.
SPEAKER_05:All right, I haven't been there. Neither am I you guys know I love tone, so I'm gonna I'm gonna go there. I'm gonna do my take the lovely uh Lady Catherine with me.
SPEAKER_03:It is. We gotta go in there, and we're uh Tony said doors are open, come podcast in here. Because we were like, because we podcasted in the back room, sure, you know, two, three times a year. And he's like, Oh, that's not done. He goes, You can podcast in here whenever you want. And I'm like, I freaking love you, Tony. Yeah, it's uh but yeah, so he had uh a kind of an opening, he's still kind of on a slow roll, a soft opening, but uh there was a uh a bourbon legend uh in town, and he was coming in to to see Tony and some other people.
SPEAKER_00:But he and Tony go way back, yeah.
SPEAKER_03:And he did a he like a good 15 plus years, and so Tony was uh he was like, Well, all right, we're gonna kind of do a kind of a grand ish opening with uh Freddie Johnson from Buffalo. The whole he is like your friendly greeter tour guide. Uh his family is entrenched in the Buffalo Trace story, and uh he made a is it's you if you see the last episode of the Man Cave, because I got to sit down with him and he shared a couple family stories. Uh and and he his he made a promise to his dad that he would come and work in the so they could be working at the at the place at the same time. So he kept that promise to his dad.
SPEAKER_05:Like Ken Griffey and Ken Griffey Jr. and both playing at the same time for Mariners.
SPEAKER_03:And then he got there and he was like, I'm staying. And so he stayed. And so uh Freddie Johnson is is an amazing uh piece of the the Buffalo Trace puzzle. And uh in honor of that tonight, um, so go back and listen to that interview with him, and we're gonna get into some Buffalo Trace, I think. Uh do we have to talk about anything else? Do we need anything else?
SPEAKER_05:Uh Matt wanted to talk about some bugs or something.
SPEAKER_00:Oh, Catherine, no, I just wanted to share the podcast. Okay, Matt, you got a bug up your ass? Well, kind of, yeah. Well, it's all right.
SPEAKER_03:So Matt Matt's got a bug up his ass.
SPEAKER_00:You listen to a podcast whenever, however, it doesn't matter. It could be a year from now. But we are we are recording right now and it's all those damn three-legged stink bugs. It's stink bugs, it's just bugs. It's fall time. You go outside and there are spiders everywhere.
SPEAKER_05:There's spiders everywhere, yes.
SPEAKER_03:There are spiders everywhere. Waiting for you like a spider. Yeah, we're covered with spiders. I like the spiders because they eat the other bugs. I'm good.
SPEAKER_00:How many people I have seen over the past week doing arachnoerobics over the past week? Do you know what arachno is right? Is it dodging? It's it's seeing somebody from a really far away and they walk through a spider web and then they just freak out. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Arachnoerobics.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, it's our bugs are abnormally large. They are gigantic hand trim. We have huge grasshoppers, it's the time of year.
SPEAKER_00:And it really is, but yeah. I just I'm not a big bug person. I don't like bugs. There was a fly in my house today, and I'm like, that fly, get it out of here.
SPEAKER_03:That's why they call it a house fly. Yeah, I was like, it's the size of a damn house.
SPEAKER_02:My mom uh found one that was a that looked like a leaf. It was like the coolest.
SPEAKER_05:Oh, that was a really unique looking thing. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:Um, if you get here, it's really let me see.
SPEAKER_00:Let me see. Show the camera. Goodness, look at that. Oh, yeah, yeah. Show the camera. Show the camera right here. This one this one right here. Oh, yeah, see? It's a big old cycle. It looks like a bird.
SPEAKER_02:I've never seen anything like that.
SPEAKER_00:But okay, so to piggyback on that, this past weekend, I went down to the conservatory down on Bell Isle. Oh, look at it being all cultural. Yeah, and it is really, really pretty. It's been closed the past couple of years because they were renovating it, yeah, changing the inside. It is a gorgeous spot for an outing for a day just to go and walk around and look at some really cool vegetation, but there are no bugs in the building. I didn't swat at a thing. But then they had the aquarium next door. It's just they've they've done such a great job on Bell Isle with the amenities and the aquarium, the mill. Yeah, they're doing a great job.
SPEAKER_05:It's even getting better. They just did a public meeting about how they can improve it. And they had people coming down saying what they want to see there. It's going to be, yeah. There's more coming up. TBD. All right.
SPEAKER_00:Wasn't didn't they? Uh Bell Isle connect something as well?
SPEAKER_05:It's going to connect. What's the date? October 23rd. Sometime the end of October. Okay. They're going to connect the Joe Lewis Greenway, I think it is. Okay. That's what it's called. All the way down by the old Joe Lewis. That whole park, the Dino Park that made they built down there. Okay. So that's going to be open to the public finally. Uh it's all going to be go all the way down. That's fantastic. That's very cool.
SPEAKER_00:I just love seeing the it because the downtown is continually evolving into what it is. It is evolving.
SPEAKER_03:It is evolving. Um, I love the city. I grew up in the city. Um, and uh, I'm I've worked in the city for years and years and years. Uh, I have the tax receipts to prove it. I have had the privilege of paying extra taxes just to prove it. And uh I love, love, love the city. Uh, great, happy that the downtown is uh getting this uh evolution. It's unrecognizable.
SPEAKER_05:It is uh it's uh Can I must have post nasal drip because my voice is really sexy today. Sexy beasts. Catherine, you're Catherine's gonna talk some more here. She's here to uh well remember when you did the uh was it the halfway to St. Patrick's Day episode we did? Yep. I wasn't done yet. Oh sorry, I thought you were.
SPEAKER_03:I thought you were just saying great that you're done jerking off the city of Detroit. No, I was gonna say they need to spread that out to the suburbs. Not not the suburbs, to the commute neighborhoods. The neighborhood.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, well, the neighborhoods are they're popping up in in uh we call them groves. It's slow. Like there's little areas over neast side, areas in that new fashion people are doing cartwheels about downtown.
SPEAKER_03:Yep. As am I?
SPEAKER_05:It's and it's as people, that's always gonna be Detroit's. As am I, it's as am I. It's too big.
SPEAKER_03:It's a huge city. So we we should divide that up. Oh, you want to have a round. You get a half, I get a half.
SPEAKER_05:You want to right size it?
SPEAKER_00:Yes.
SPEAKER_03:Do you want a South Detroit? Gerrymander that bad boy. Uh do you want to be born and raised? It's it's it's it it needs uh it. I I love love love what's happened downtown. We need to get it to the neighborhoods too. All right, now I'm done. Uh Kat, last time you were here doing halfway to St. Patrick's, go.
SPEAKER_02:I was gonna say, Detroit has grown super, super fast, though. I was my parents told me in their lifetime they never thought that would be a cool place again. They were like, it won't happen. Oh, we're talking six years. Brush Park, what the hell's that? Yeah, and I remember working down there when I worked for Quicken, and it was like all of a sudden one restaurant, two, three, four, and I'm like, Mom, Dad, you want to come to Detroit for dinner?
SPEAKER_01:Oh, look, Pop Belly. Oh, look, Hard Rock Cafe, a cheesecake factory. Right, no shit. Yeah, and I used to have to sneak down there to go to Oh, we always would sneak down there.
SPEAKER_05:We go to Trappers, where they let us drink underage at Trappers inside Trapper's Alley, which is now the casino. Yeah. I didn't drink, I didn't drink. I didn't drink back then. All right. I was always a driver. Oh, and we'd all pile into there and yeah, get pictures of beer.
SPEAKER_02:Yes, last time I was here, I was your taste tester. Yes.
SPEAKER_05:Well, you're our server. We're doing shenanigans again today with some what we're gonna do today in honor of uh the Buffalo Trace podcast that was previous. Yeah, we have uh a regular bottle of Buffalo Trace for airline bottles of Buffalo Trace.
SPEAKER_03:Are we doing are we doing the airline bottles as a taste?
SPEAKER_02:That's mixed up. Oh my god, that's a oh, all right. Yeah, throw it off a little bit.
SPEAKER_05:And then there is a uh uh barrel pick from the Charlevoy in Gross Point and a barrel pick from Butter Run, correct? Yes, yes. And so our goal here today is to pick the regular one.
SPEAKER_00:Okay. Eric chimed in and he's saying hi. What's up, guys?
SPEAKER_05:Oh, Schaltis. We gotta get his butt in here.
SPEAKER_00:Yep, yeah.
SPEAKER_05:He's been working a lot lately. We gotta get down to his place. Oh, you mean Livonia?
SPEAKER_00:Yeah.
SPEAKER_05:Who the fuck wants to go to Livonia?
SPEAKER_00:He's got a man cave?
SPEAKER_05:Uh, it's in a bar, actually. All right, I mean now I think about it. Yeah, okay. Cave. He doesn't tell us what day of the what day of the week works, and yeah, we'll we'll cross the streams.
SPEAKER_01:Sure.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, I failed at crossing the streams with Elric. I failed at I get I did get Craig Folly in. That one did work.
SPEAKER_03:That is, that's it.
SPEAKER_05:Um, and we do have one eventually, whenever we're ready to go out on the road. Um we gotta talk about that. Yeah, and then there's another bar that's opening up on the east side that wants us in there day one, uh, Cannons. All right, which is uh it's about to open up a little east side, the old Lost River location. Oh wow.
SPEAKER_00:So we got stuff to do, fellas.
SPEAKER_03:All right, so Matt.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah.
SPEAKER_03:Well, Kat is uh grabbing some Buffalo Trace for us to peruse. Number one, tell me a little bit about the uh what do you know about the uh Buffalo Trace distillery? Uh the history of the foundations, and so on the screen. How many barrels did they lose in the flood? Go get to Googling, Mofo. Uh so here's number one. I'm stalling a little bit while you while you do that. And here's the thing, right? We are we're not kidding around. Here's our take on the if you're watching on the Facebook. Well, we got these nice little glasses here. We got some fun little tasting glasses, tasting cups. And they have some seriously, they're seriously numbered. We're not it's not kidding around. I'm telling you right now, there's no way this is the regular one.
SPEAKER_05:No, because it's too dark. Well, I can't even I don't have anything to compare it to yet, except what's in that little airline bottle there and with a black table behind it.
SPEAKER_03:So, but it is I'm having we're having fun with these tastings. Number one. But uh number one. Number one, number one, number one. Uh so fun little glasses, and they're like labeled really well. You gotta, if you if you if you're listening to the audio podcast, might be worth a jump over to the video podcast. That is a delightful sip of whiskey. Or maybe not, but uh so the Buffalo Trace Distillery, they do uh uh Colonel Taylor, they do the Sazerac, they do the Blantons, they do the Eagle Rare, uh all coming out of the Buffalo Trace Distillery. There's a couple more of them the Weller, oh duh, because we can't get them in Michigan for crying out loud. Uh the Weller, but they're overrated.
SPEAKER_05:I mean, the price point's is insane.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
unknown:All right.
SPEAKER_03:The MSRP on Wellers are great. Yes. If you can get them at the MSRP. Yeah. Uh, but yeah, it's uh the bottles of Weller are fewer and far between in Michigan. There's too many people buying it and putting it on a shelf and never touching it just to say they have it at a reasonable price, yes. Yeah. So uh oh my god, Tony had a barrel pick of the Weller that he was selling at that night with Freddie, and he was like, So I'm only gonna sell one case. He brought the case out, was gone two seconds. Oh but for the night was over, he brought out like five cases. People were just like so many, and Freddie was signing. It was cool. Freddie was signing. It's cool that he's signing them. And then this guy next to me, uh Mark, uh, he and I were sitting there. This guy, Mark, uh, really cool guy, and uh he bought two. Well, how much is he selling them for? 150 bucks. Yeah, I would have passed. So, but no, I mean, they were that's what you're gonna get for it. That's the right price. But some of the things I think MSRP on it, his uh, because of the angel share and everything. I mean, it was like a over a hundred on his on his, you know, you know, what the MSRP on the on the state tells you what you have to charge for this. Yeah, some of that. And so he didn't, he he wasn't astronomically above his MSRP, but this guy bought two of them at 150 bucks a piece, and he's oh I'm gonna keep one and we'll I'll have the other one and we'll drink it. I'm like, I'm a drink it guy, you know. I got Eddie Belfour and and and Rob Samuels and Neil Geraldo and and and and Geraldo Rivera.
SPEAKER_05:I was gonna say Geraldo Rivera was next, right?
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, but I got signatures on all those and I'm cracking on drinking them.
SPEAKER_00:I'm not sure. Did you mention the some of the proceeds that went to charity?
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, and uh Freddie Johnson has a charity where they they do they restorations of uh graveyards, um, and they like headstones and graveyards.
SPEAKER_04:Eagle Scout, Eagle Scout shit.
SPEAKER_03:Yep, yeah. So money from that, uh if you go to the Buffalo Trace website or listen to the last episode very Halloween themed of uh charity right now. He's uh he's doing some great work with that. And uh people that were buying those bottles, money is going towards that as well. But Matt, what else do we know about Buffalo Trace?
SPEAKER_00:Well, the history of Buffalo Trace goes all the way back to 1771. Okay. Right? Who knew? Who knew? And it was Daniel Boone passes through four years before I was born. Yeah, yeah. Daniel Boone? Daniel Boone passes through Lee's town on the Buffalo Trace. That was in 70, 1771. All right. A few years later in 1790. On the Buffalo Trace. In 17, yeah, he's tracing Buffalo. I don't know. On 1797. I'm just I'm fast-forwarding a little bit. Fast forward, 1792. But in nine 1792, Kentucky becomes the 15th state in the Union itself. Fast forward to 1711, there's a three-story stone warehouse built on the Kentucky River near Riverside to store goods.
SPEAKER_03:Okay, right?
SPEAKER_00:And then this includes many better barrels of whiskey away with shipment as far away as New Orleans. So think about that way back when in 1811, how they were shipping all the way to New Orleans. That had to that was a big endeavor. Fast forward to 1870. Edmund Haynes Taylor, Colonel Edmund Haynes Taylor. You gotta have a colonel. Colonel.
SPEAKER_03:That's the guy that managed Elvis. I think so. I think so. Yeah, that's really in the chicken. Oh, you'll eat my chicken.
SPEAKER_00:All right. Look at the size of that boy's head. It's like Sputnik. All right. But yeah, that's just there is my own fault. You have to go to the if you go to the Buffalo Trace website, BuffaloTrace.com, you will learn so much about the history of the colour. All right, yeah.
SPEAKER_03:Colonel Taylor, he was uh instrumental in getting some some regulation for because people were selling like rubbing alcohol with tobacco crap in a bottle, yeah, uh, and calling it whiskey and calling it bourbon. Michael Keyes, how are you, buddy? Yeah, he was one of my former students. If that's the same Keyes, he uh ran for uh uh uh a city. Clinton Township, I believe. Uh yeah, something like that. Michael, my old buddy. I haven't seen him in a minute. He's in the UP or something. That's what he just said. Yeah, years and years ago.
SPEAKER_00:Michael Hay, thanks for checking in. He and I actually had lunch together and uh for our professional lives when I was still in the in the other banking institution. Mike's good people.
SPEAKER_03:Yes, he really is a good kid. He was a good kid. He's a good kid. He's good, he's like a full-grown adult buying houses in the UP. I know.
SPEAKER_00:Oh, he's a good kid. That's a nice lad, isn't it all? Uh but Jamie, look at the size of that boy's heap.
SPEAKER_03:Oh, I'm telling you. Uh telling you. So all right.
SPEAKER_05:That's what you get for chiming in, Mike. Good to hear from you, buddy.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, yeah, yeah. Heat punts. All right, so go on. But all right, so today the bubble of trace long and surviving history. Uh, the first pour, and we don't know what these are. So we have four pores. Two are two are barrel picks, and two are the same but different. So one one's the one's an airline bottle, one's a big glass bottle. Right, right, right.
SPEAKER_05:I don't know if there's gonna be a difference.
SPEAKER_00:We'll find out.
SPEAKER_03:Because they say once it comes out of the barrel and goes into the bottling, there's no it's not supposed to be.
SPEAKER_05:That's the whole point of being a master distiller, is it's consistency, it's supposed to be there.
SPEAKER_03:So the difference between the the airline bottle and the shelf bottle I bought should be negative. Nothing. We shouldn't be able to get we should be not a little bit more than we should know it's one or the other, and I have to flip a coin. But now barrel picks, I have different profiles.
SPEAKER_05:They're hotter, they're spicier, they're we should be able to know, and I have a little bit of a cheat here because I've opened up my bottle of Charlovie and had a couple of we tried we've got it.
SPEAKER_00:Not after you obliterate your uh palate with these.
SPEAKER_03:Well, I know, yeah. I should have a water.
SPEAKER_00:Well, I didn't bring my water.
SPEAKER_03:I got a water. But anyway, um, so we because we tried the Buffalo Trace at uh the butter run with Dave Harding, and I was like, I need to buy one of these.
SPEAKER_05:And he was like, uh tasting uh assistant, do you really think that your palate is set with Doritos and Dr. Pepper? Yet he said that I'm shooting my palate off. A bag of Doritos and a can of Dr. Pepper. Don't you freaking judge me? It's gonna be weird.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, don't you freaking judge me? I just had a five buck chuck pizza.
SPEAKER_00:Such a long day, Augusta.
SPEAKER_03:Okay, just kidding. With cheese a five buck chucked pizza with cheesy sauce dip. Yeah, right. So some people like smell coffee beans.
SPEAKER_02:We can just use little Caesars like garlic.
SPEAKER_00:That's why I'm guess who else is drinking wine tonight? Who? Mr. Michael Keyes. Oh, same way. Oh, that's good, man.
SPEAKER_03:Yep, yep. That's gonna, if I make it to the hot tub tonight, that's gonna be a happening on hot tub. All right, yeah. All right, so number one. Number one, number one.
SPEAKER_02:All right, I'll go get you guys some water.
SPEAKER_05:I got a water here. I'm good.
SPEAKER_03:So that's I might have an open one somewhere. It might be on the bar.
SPEAKER_05:This is a barrel pick. I just don't know which one it is until I taste the other barrel.
SPEAKER_03:That right off the bat? Oh, yeah. That's a kick in the groin. It has a different. As you like to say, it's a kick in the dick.
SPEAKER_05:I might have had a buffalo trace on a plane recently. So yeah. So it's robust, right? So buffalo trace the the shelf. I would no well then again, what's the difference? I mean, I grabbed these at a party store. It might be different than the ones that are in a in a that are right. Maybe I don't know if airline pressurization would change it. I don't have any on the clean, but I just got them off of uh out of the the shoot the little the what's it called fish bowl that they have at the uh at the corner. And that's the story you're staggering with right next to the uh register. Here's a fishbowl of roots. That's the story you're I had to dig it out from the 99 bananas. They were all mixed together. Oh my god. And my favorite, the Bacardi Dragon Fruit, which is also goes great with Dr. Pepper in a movie theater. Just saying. Oh, it's great. Okay, if you say so. Yeah. Dragonberry, maybe it's called. I don't know.
SPEAKER_03:Um that's that's uh that's a little more. I'm saving some of that for later. That's a nice one. That's a that's a little more robust and spicy than than uh than I when I think of a Buffalo Trace, right? Because I that I have usually have that on the shelf as a daily pour. Um bring number two. Number two?
SPEAKER_01:Number two. Number two.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, I mean you gotta put them in. Yeah, we're in there.
SPEAKER_03:I do. I mean, I might save that. Uh I may reserve that. Matthew, here's a oh well thank you. Here's a number two for you. James, appreciate that.
SPEAKER_00:All right, so number two, number two. I'm gonna go this for nobody. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_03:I gotta I gotta we got paper and notes, I guess. One, two, three, four. Matt, do you really hate that uh proper twelve?
SPEAKER_00:You're gonna go there already? Already.
SPEAKER_03:God bless America.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah.
SPEAKER_03:All right, number two. Do I go back and sniff number one? Yeah, there's different noses on that. Are there different colors on them?
SPEAKER_00:Let me smell. Uh it doesn't look like there's the different noses. The different noses, but the colors are really similar.
SPEAKER_03:I don't know. Number one looks a little darker to me.
SPEAKER_00:They look similar to me. I'm colorblind sometimes too.
SPEAKER_03:I like these cops. Great job, Kat. Yeah. Hold on. Are you where are you doing? Are you doing these with us or not?
SPEAKER_02:I'm I'm on the wine train. You're on the wine train?
SPEAKER_03:Oh you and Mike, you and Mike are on the wine train. Did you bring your own wine or did you do the wine air? I did.
unknown:All right.
SPEAKER_03:Oh, is that uh J Bone? Yeah, J Bone. Cheers. Cheers. Thanks, Mike. Cheers. Next one.
SPEAKER_00:Um next one. Bring in the next. Did you guys go to the rest of the street? I was still I was still still.
SPEAKER_05:No, I I I'm I have some dignity.
SPEAKER_03:I did. I bought a new dress.
SPEAKER_05:No, I'm just I always make fun of it.
SPEAKER_03:I bought a new dress and I went to the I went to the thing. Oh, coming up behind you, Matt Fox.
SPEAKER_05:Oh, yep, yep.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, so we are going through four different uh buffalo traces. Well, really three, but two are the same.
SPEAKER_03:Three with a wild card.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03:You might as well grab four too.
SPEAKER_05:Put it down there.
SPEAKER_03:All right. So yeah, so we are tasting people just jumping in right here. We are tasting four different buffalo traces.
SPEAKER_05:But only three or two or three or three are different. Three are different. Right, right.
SPEAKER_03:Same as it ever was.
SPEAKER_00:The same as it ever was. So that's uh same as it ever was.
SPEAKER_03:So um there's two barrel picks.
SPEAKER_00:Thank you, Kat.
SPEAKER_03:And then two regular shelf picks, but one is the one one is a set of airline bottles and the other one is uh uh a fifth.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, that's I'm going that direction with that one.
SPEAKER_03:So oh wow.
unknown:Okay.
SPEAKER_03:All right, all right, all right. All right, so number three. Are we on three? Oh, wow.
SPEAKER_00:I just I already uh tasted three. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_03:All right, now four is here.
SPEAKER_02:Now I'm getting confused.
SPEAKER_03:There's way too much.
SPEAKER_02:You made the numbers really big for that reason. I know.
SPEAKER_05:That's why the numbers are ginormous.
SPEAKER_02:Number three.
SPEAKER_05:Those are professionally printed.
SPEAKER_00:Yes, they are. I went back for a second taste on three because I like that the most so far.
SPEAKER_03:Really? Yeah. I'm not sure if it's uh all right. We're talking. Matt, no. All right, we're making notes. Now I gotta hide my notes from That's why you have to give us two.
SPEAKER_05:We're supposed to have the I'll have to get over here. Study book session.
SPEAKER_00:So, August, Kat, you guys did some traveling this past weekend. Well, you were working, right?
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, he came with me to Los Angeles.
SPEAKER_05:It was bring your boyfriend to work weekend. I got to tag along on a flight to LA and uh run into uh Detroit's own Nate Bonkowski, who's relocated out there to Hermosa Beach.
SPEAKER_06:Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_05:I got to meet uh one of my childhood best friends, like like known since first grade, got to meet uh at age uh 50 to decide to have uh a kid. So uh his newest one, you know, little Johnny. So met little John. All right. And uh big kid. Nope, he's little. He's uh just a little little John. Okay, uh, and uh see some friends in Long Beach, and they're in the Long Beach area, they're on Long Beach, so I spent some time. Uh thank God the flight and the hotel were free because I spent almost$200 just on Ubers to get around town.
SPEAKER_00:Oh yeah, yeah, I bet. I bet.
SPEAKER_02:And we brought him uh we brought Nate some stuff from some goodies from Zrodex and him tramock.
SPEAKER_03:Nate's good people.
SPEAKER_02:Oh, you brought him some uh Polish uh Yeah, so after a few tequilas, we were cutting up Kelbasa for like everyone in LA.
SPEAKER_05:Oh, he literally pulled a Swiss Army knife out of his uh panty pack. No surprise there. Spreading around the Polish sauce. And was cutting it like you know, like a like a like a uh explorer cuts an apple, you know. You bring a knife towards your thumb, which no rational human ever does. He's cutting sausage like that, handed it out to bartenders all over all over Hermosa Beach.
SPEAKER_00:So he was unlinking his own sausage. Oh, it was just a big old chunky set. So many jokes there.
SPEAKER_02:But yeah, they it was it was kind of he got the big front seat. They were, you know.
SPEAKER_03:I got no idea. I have no idea what's going on here.
SPEAKER_00:I think I know what's going on.
SPEAKER_05:I think I know what's going on here.
SPEAKER_00:I think I know what's going on here as well. I think I got it nailed, Cat. I think I know exactly what you did. One, two, three, and four. I think I have it nailed.
SPEAKER_05:All right, and then let's put a star next to your favorite one, no matter what it is.
SPEAKER_00:Got it.
SPEAKER_05:Okay.
unknown:All right.
SPEAKER_03:Here's what I'm thinking, here's what I'm thinking, here's what I'm thinking.
SPEAKER_00:So there were four little tastings here. There were four tastings, all Buffalo trays, but two were barrel pick or were uh special barrel picks.
SPEAKER_05:Right.
SPEAKER_00:And two, one was from the actual bottle and one was the airline bottle.
SPEAKER_05:Yes, of regular off-shelf.
SPEAKER_00:Of regular off-the-shelf buffalo trays.
SPEAKER_02:Which one was your favorite?
SPEAKER_00:The K. Roger.
SPEAKER_02:All right.
SPEAKER_05:I liked number one the best.
SPEAKER_02:Okay. Ding ding.
SPEAKER_05:That's two of us.
SPEAKER_03:Two votes for bottle number one. I I enjoyed number three the best. Oh we'll give number three a ding. All right. All right, so I had number one picked as the butter run saloon pick. I have the exact same thing.
SPEAKER_00:We'll go through this and we'll get it.
SPEAKER_03:So we all right, so we all picked that.
SPEAKER_00:Yep, we all three of us. Butter run for the side.
SPEAKER_05:Also, it was the first I we I kind of figured that was a barrel because it just had the the smell was not the smell of the regular. It was a step up. Yeah, it was a step up. Yep, yep. Step up and step over.
SPEAKER_00:And I and I I I felt it was butter run because I think I've had that before at the butter run.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, honestly, it was 50-50. It was either butter run or Charlevoy. Well, it was a barrel pick, and I got, and if I got like I got like it, maybe it's the other one. We'll not, but I think it's a barrel. Number two, I wrote down as a regular airline bottle. Same.
SPEAKER_03:There you go. Absolute same.
SPEAKER_05:Ditto. Then number three, yeah. The Charlevoix.
SPEAKER_03:See, I I diverged. I diverged. I said number three was the regular, regular bottle.
SPEAKER_05:Oh, really? Yeah.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah. And I said number four was the Charlevoix pick for me.
SPEAKER_05:All right, all right. Yeah, I want you guys. So let's let's uh have uh Lady Catherine reveal bottle number one.
SPEAKER_03:Bottle number two. And bottle and so okay, what do we say? Oh, we all said number one was our favorite. What was your second pick?
SPEAKER_05:Well, you guys said number two was your favorite. I said number three was my favorite. Yeah, you just said number you didn't say number three was your favorite.
SPEAKER_03:And I would say number two would be my uh number three would be my number two. The regular bottle would have been my number two pick.
SPEAKER_05:Number one's a Charlotte Boy, so we knew it was a pick. Yeah, that's a Charlotte Boys.
SPEAKER_03:Because I remember Dave's being kind of fierce, and that was fiercer of the four.
SPEAKER_00:I'm gonna go back and try number one.
SPEAKER_05:Out the bottle. This is out the bottle. Okay. That was out the button. Two is a regular. Regular three was the Fazerac Butter Run. That's butter run. All right. So I had I had all of them upside down. But we no, we had the barrel picks versus a regular. I think we all had that, right?
SPEAKER_03:You guys did. Yeah. I was I only had one, and I didn't even have the right barrel pick.
SPEAKER_05:Well, you were I'm the biggest loser. You were at well, but you spent, you know, before you got here, you were hanging out with the rest of the mud farmers over at the Hiberian Hall, and you were having a couple Guinness. It could have like ruined your palate.
SPEAKER_03:I was in the Irish Music Cafe podcast studio, and there was uh triple triple Jamesons going. Uh we're gonna do that on an upcoming show. We got some triple triple Jamesons to do against some Jameson.
SPEAKER_05:That's what we need is triple triple Jameson. Triple triple. I mean, I'll do I'll do the same thing next time she's home on a one on a Monday. We'll bring out the Jamesons and screw around.
SPEAKER_03:Jameson's black barrel. Uh the orange is obviously orange. You know it's orange because it kicks you in the butt, but we can do four. Yeah, it does it does kick you in the butt. The triple triple.
SPEAKER_05:But the ones that do sneak by you are the they still do the IPA, which one which I didn't care for, and the stout barrel. Yeah, those weren't bad. The stout one was better. I only had those around about. I never really bought those for home. One of the greatest bottles I ever had, you can't find anymore, and that was the Jameson Gold Reserve.
SPEAKER_04:Ah, yeah.
SPEAKER_05:I went a two-year period giving that as wedding presents. It was uh Roland's wedding present. Oh, give him a bottle of Jameson Gold Reserve, and they opened it up a couple days later, actually a couple weekends later, and put it next to regular Jameson and said they're never gonna drink Jameson again. Wow. You can only drink gold reserve.
SPEAKER_03:And then and then that bottle shot up to a couple hundred bucks, and now they're back to the regular Jameson. And it disappeared. So yeah, it's probably something else now. They probably packaged it in bottles.
SPEAKER_05:I'm sure some uh some blog is is is gonna expose it. Yeah. The way they did with the wild turkey. Like they put the age stamp on the wild turkey now. Yeah, yeah. And it's they didn't do that before, but they sold it in Japan, but they didn't sell it here. And it's like, okay, whatever.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, yeah. What was the other one they just did? Heaven Hill. Um, they had the Heaven Hill bottle. So Heaven Hill. And they pulled it up, they pulled it off the shelf for a while and they brought it back and they charged like the first or three times.
SPEAKER_05:Like eight years of my bartending career, Heaven Hill was our well garbage. Right.
SPEAKER_03:It was garbage. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05:At least it was on what we were for the price point. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03:Price point. Right? Price point.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah. I mean, people people didn't know.
SPEAKER_03:But it was it was a fair bourbon.
SPEAKER_02:The last time we did this, though, you guys liked the it was a complete opposite of what you guys thought you were gonna like.
SPEAKER_05:Well, we didn't do guess what it we did what we liked first and what we thought it was second. Right. Yeah. And so what we liked was kind of the waste of proper twelve, right? And I think, but I think that's because, and I said this at the time, our palettes are so bourbon trained. Yeah. And the proper 12 was a more flavorful whiskey. Yeah, it just was.
SPEAKER_00:And I I came into that episode going, I am not a fan of proper 12.
SPEAKER_05:Because we hate Connor McGregor. We didn't know.
SPEAKER_00:At the end of the day, after we went through, I'm like, Yeah, that was my favorite one, and it just so happened to be Proper 12 was the one that I liked the most. And I could have, yeah, I was I was kind of ashamed of myself.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, not on the on the flavors on these on these buffaloes, because because a lot of times a proof has an impact, but they're all 45, they're all 45% proofs.
SPEAKER_05:None of the barrels, the barrel picks are are the no the super proofs, yeah. These are um that would have blown the curve right away.
SPEAKER_03:Oh, yeah, these are all we know that at least. But the the Charlotte Boy is decidedly different, and yet um I'll you know what? I thought, I thought the butter run was when we were tasting it was like way different. Which one was the butter run? The butter run was the thing. Number three number three, three, yeah. I thought number four was like I thought it was the airline bottle because uh no, I thought it was a Charlevoy because it was thinner. Um number three is the butter run.
SPEAKER_00:Was my butter run? And that was my favorite one that I starred.
SPEAKER_05:Look, um, we should preface all this. We should have, but none of this sucks. No, this is all great. It's all my god, it's delicious. It really is. It's great. And then you could only rank them if you're drinking them next to each other. Otherwise, it's just oh, I just had a delicious bourbon while watching the tigers lose again.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. So what happens if I pour the rest of my one, two, three, four cups into one glass?
SPEAKER_05:On the rocks, then you become then you become a master blender. Master blender. You're a master blender. See, it's better than a master baiter like me.
SPEAKER_02:That's uh that's you know what? Takes one to no one.
SPEAKER_05:And he's a teacher, so he's a master debater.
SPEAKER_03:That is that is teaches journalism. That was it. You're gonna join the party in a couple weeks. I am, I am gonna join that party. I'm gonna have a guest speaker in my class. Really? I had to get him, I had to I had to get him fingerprinted and uh my agent worked out a decent deal. Mr. Gitch, not senior plaza.
SPEAKER_05:Uh I'm allowed near schools, not senior plazas.
SPEAKER_00:What the hell does it take to have somebody come in and just go, hey? I really hope one of the students go, Mr. Gitchlag, tell me about that night of September 29th of this year. I just want to see what the answer would be.
SPEAKER_05:First of all, it's Mr. August. None of them are gonna say Gitchlag, right?
SPEAKER_00:Well, no, it's the I can because I got the vernacular for it.
SPEAKER_05:So that's it.
SPEAKER_03:Uh yeah.
SPEAKER_02:Can you spell it though?
SPEAKER_00:Um A-U-G-U-S-T.
SPEAKER_05:That's it. I remember when they were doing Man on the Street once with Jay Leno, and they're like, spell penitentiary. The guy goes, J-A-I-L-J-A-I-L, jail. Beat it.
SPEAKER_00:All right. Did you see so Jimmy Fallon actually was in town a couple weeks ago because the lions were in town. And that night, Keegan Michael Key was the guest on the Jimmy Fallon show. Yeah. And they were going through street names in Michigan to Detroit.
SPEAKER_03:That was good. And I didn't see that, but I wanted to I saw the meme of it, but I didn't see the city.
SPEAKER_05:It opened with Livernoy.
SPEAKER_00:Livernoy, Dequinder, and the Quandre.
SPEAKER_05:Grashet was the one that they knew. As soon as it came up, everyone just started classing, clapping. Like, you're never going to get this right.
SPEAKER_00:But yeah, those are the three streets that uh Kika Michael Key shared with Jimmy Fallon.
SPEAKER_05:Oh, only three?
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, it was only three. I thought they were, I was waiting for the Cadu. I was waiting for Cadju.
SPEAKER_05:Shayner, Shayner, what is the other one? Dequin DeQondre is the one that was Grashet, Gradiot, and DeQondre were most mispronounced by my TomTom GPS. The first ones you had. Those are the ones that were the most mispronounced.
SPEAKER_03:And then I got I got my my location set to Dublin in my phone just because I'm an idiot.
SPEAKER_00:No, it's fine.
SPEAKER_03:And I don't won't be able to search things and find them nearby. So, but I got my location set to Dublin in my phone. With an Irish accent. So yeah. And so my girl talks to me in an Irish accent. Uh, she has no idea what any of these streets are.
SPEAKER_02:Tree, turdy, tree.
SPEAKER_03:I can't, I can't, I can't get my girl, my Irish girl, into the 313.
SPEAKER_05:When I went to Irish, I just love the way you're disapprovingly shaking. You do that just so you can steer your car with a boner, right?
SPEAKER_03:Yes.
SPEAKER_02:Well, mine's set to like a very sexy Australian man.
SPEAKER_03:What's uh what's it what is your sex tree sexy Australian man called? Does he have a name? Do you have a name for him? Do you talk to him?
SPEAKER_02:Yes, all the time.
SPEAKER_03:What's his name? What's his name? What's his name? I got a name for my girl. I'll tell you who's your who's your guy? What's his name? I got Nora. Nora is mine. Nora.
SPEAKER_05:Nora, yeah. We were hanging with an Australian, a roo and a kiwi over the weekend. Uh uh in uh Hermosa Beach we ran into. Okay. Thanks to Nate's social life. What's the cat weekend? When you turn that when you turn that seat heater on, what's the name?
SPEAKER_02:The heat seater. Heat seater? Yeah. Luckily, my car also has a seat heater's name.
SPEAKER_05:It's all named August. That is that is turbulence. That's Augie. August, Augie, Gus, Gusto. Gus Gitch.
SPEAKER_03:Gitch, that's my brother's nickname. I can't use that. All right. Do you name your did you name your GPS voice?
SPEAKER_05:No.
SPEAKER_03:Oh, Jesus. What fun are you?
SPEAKER_05:None. You know that about me. You know I'm no fun.
SPEAKER_03:Jamie. Jamie, I will tell you. I will tell you who are you? Mute.
SPEAKER_02:Mute?
SPEAKER_03:You name them mute?
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, because they don't say a word. I turn that shit off.
SPEAKER_05:I mean, the early one, I used to have a uh a Millennium Falcon was my car. And we had to merge on the freeway and go, hit it, Chewy, and it would be like it would like do the whole thing. It was really fun. The old Star Wars on the TomTom. Yep. But then it just got too repetitive. And then I did a cartman for a while was the voice.
SPEAKER_00:Oh, Jesus.
SPEAKER_05:And it was just again, there was only there was only like four phrases he said, though.
SPEAKER_04:It's like, get out of the freeway, damn it. And like shit like that. It just yell at you. And it was that was kind of cute.
SPEAKER_02:But my sister recorded her voice over her husband's. Um, I don't know how they did that, but it's like, turn right, honey bunny.
SPEAKER_06:Oh boy. All right. We're all we're all master blunders now, right?
SPEAKER_02:I like the I Irish accent though. Um you do it really well. Actually, you do a good impression. Oh, when I went there, they uh they called me um yeah, he did.
SPEAKER_03:Oh, it's funny. I was at uh the Michigan Irish Fest. Uh Colleen and I are walking around hitting the little booths, and this woman's like, oh hey, you know what? Feel free, check out the booths. Uh if you have any questions, are you having a good day? I'm like, how yeah, you know, and I just a little Irish greeting. She's like, Oh, where are you from? And I'm like, No, I'm just uh Troy. Troy. I'm Troy Irish.
SPEAKER_02:Well that that was like the city we were in in LA this weekend. It was it's actually called San Pedro, and it's like everyone like if you if you were Hispanic, you would say like San Pedro. But then we get to the bar and they're like, no, we call it Pedro. Pedro, I'm like America, Pedro.
SPEAKER_03:Okay, but yeah, so it's it's you know, I got my fake Irish accent I throw on. It's usually after a couple of whiskeys, all right. It usually comes out a little harder.
SPEAKER_00:A couple of Guinness in you, and you turn all Irish.
SPEAKER_05:So now I'm going to Math to see how I can change the Google voices. I don't know how to do it. So you can start start calling it. You can pick all kinds of things.
SPEAKER_03:Where's the settings? So look, look, just a Scandinavian slut. Just get that and uh you know, have that.
SPEAKER_02:And she's like, yeah.
SPEAKER_03:You should turn left now. Oh boy.
SPEAKER_02:She's not even drinking whiskey.
SPEAKER_03:He likes giggles after every direction. Where do I get the voices?
SPEAKER_02:Do one that calls you daddy.
SPEAKER_03:Well, I'll do that if you show me how to do it. If they keep calling you daddy, can you uh take them as a tax write-off?
SPEAKER_00:Right.
SPEAKER_03:All right, anyway.
SPEAKER_00:All you need to do is record her voice, August. And then every time she sends you a text, Daddy.
SPEAKER_05:Oh, so I had phones that used to do that. I used to be able to assign certain things to certain people.
SPEAKER_00:I don't think you do that anymore. Is that an Apple or an Android? It's an Android. I will show you how to do it.
SPEAKER_05:You can assign certain songs to different people so I always know when it's her.
SPEAKER_00:Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_05:Great.
SPEAKER_02:In Ireland they call me Katrin. Catrin Daddy. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03:Cat Daddy. Oh boy. Here we go. Cat Daddy.
SPEAKER_05:Hey, he's Cat Daddy.
SPEAKER_02:There we go.
SPEAKER_05:Oh, I'm gonna start calling you cat daddy. Make the hat. Get the custom hat made. I'll wear it. Trucker hat says cat daddy. I'll finger bang the shit out of that hat. I had to get it in.
SPEAKER_04:I had to work that. I had to get it in.
SPEAKER_02:I started calling him a jus this weekend.
SPEAKER_04:Oh stuff. It's a soft G in August.
SPEAKER_00:You have started a trend.
SPEAKER_03:Oh my lord. Started something. All right. Ajust. Thank you to Freddie for uh inspiring our Buffalo Trace. Uh in a trace off. A trace off. Trace off.
SPEAKER_00:Look at that. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05:That's the name of the name of the podcast tonight. The trace off. The Buffalo Traceoff.
SPEAKER_03:A Buffalo Traceoff. I wonder if the IA will uh IA will pick up on that. I AI. AI.
SPEAKER_05:Whoa.
SPEAKER_03:Don't say it out loud. Don't say it out loud. They'll come for you. You gotta flip it.
SPEAKER_05:And thank you to Butter Run and Charleville for having some great barrel picks.
SPEAKER_00:Absolutely.
SPEAKER_03:Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, they're delicious.
SPEAKER_03:Dave had that one under the counter, and he was like, I don't think we got many left. The waitress was like, We don't have any left. And Dave's like, Yeah, there's one up there. I'll tell you. Yeah, I got some. So I get it. And I'm like, yes.
SPEAKER_02:So is that who Firebird and um uh our glassware sponsor, Firebird?
SPEAKER_05:Yes, and no, they met doing tequila together. Logistics plastics from the city. Dave Hardness and uh and Tony and Owen all went to they went, they did their barrel pick tequila with Dave Hardin's. I know what they are. The Buffalo McGee's didn't geeze did uh a bourbon. I think it was either an Elijah Craig or Jefferson's Ocean. I can't remember if either one of you listening, text me. I can't remember. But they split uh a barrel between Firebird and McGee's.
SPEAKER_02:Ah, okay. It wasn't Buffalo's something. It wasn't Buffalo Trace.
SPEAKER_05:It was either Elijah Craig or Jefferson's Ocean. I can't remember. They have a I believe it's an Elijah Craig right now. Okay. At McGee's. All right, and at 14 bucks a dram. I'm okay with it. Yeah, I'm okay with it.
SPEAKER_00:At a bar, bar price. At a bar price. At a bar price. That's fair for a bar price. Can I can I share something with you guys?
SPEAKER_05:Um is it is it deeply personal? It's just it's something that is personal. Matthew, yeah. We're here for you.
SPEAKER_00:I know you are. That's why I want you to.
SPEAKER_05:I I accept your transition.
SPEAKER_00:All right, so David, you stole my thunder. Such an asshole. No. Um, this past weekend, I had family in town. And these are folks that had not been in Michigan for ever. If not ever. They've never really been in Michigan. This person actually has a degree from CMU and has never stepped foot on the corpus.
SPEAKER_05:Mention that.
unknown:Right.
SPEAKER_00:And they had, I feel, for for me, I feel that they and I had a really good visit. Because it was my parents, and we had a really good visit this past weekend. Oh, I have such a feeling of relief because they came, they sat down, they got to know my partner. Speaking of colonels, isn't your dad a colonel? No, he he retired as a major.
SPEAKER_05:They ain't that far off, dude. No, did I?
SPEAKER_00:That's a no major retirement majors. Major retirement. No, so yeah, you know, you know, being in the Air Force and what have you. He he he's an he's an amazing individual. Anyhow, I just had a really good visit with my parents this past weekend. Like I said, we talked to Belle Isle, you know, I took him around town.
SPEAKER_05:I had a great at Monday uh watching football with uh your daughter. Yes, you did last Monday. Monday night football. She was there and deflected all of my targeting, went away from you and right to her.
SPEAKER_00:I I think I I think your words were wow, she's a handful. And you're you're not far off. She's an amazing individual, too. And she's out in North Carolina now.
SPEAKER_05:Lovely, if uh if really okay. Yeah, and if Kat, I was gonna add and invite her to do the taste testing part.
SPEAKER_00:Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_05:So what's that?
SPEAKER_03:Nothing.
SPEAKER_05:What do you what do you what are you saying over there?
SPEAKER_00:Didn't say a word. North Carolina, great. No, yeah. We I haven't had a really good couple of weeks. Let me just say that.
SPEAKER_03:So yeah, but uh, thank you for the Yelk Club for uh allowing us there to uh uh do the the drinking during the game and not kicking us out, and for all the jello shots.
SPEAKER_05:Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_02:What a great place. That's fun.
SPEAKER_05:Have we seen just how bad Baltimore's defense is now? 138 points or something in four games have been scored. Like you can just run up and down the field on them. And it used to be all they did.
SPEAKER_02:But who's winning your fantasy league, honey?
SPEAKER_05:I have several. Which one do you want to talk about? I might win tonight. We have a fantasy league, just my family. You are my fantasy league.
SPEAKER_02:But guess what?
SPEAKER_00:Get your ajust on. Yes. Yes.
SPEAKER_02:I'm in a fantasy league with his entire family. Oh my gosh, really?
SPEAKER_05:Oh, so that is that is uh that's commitment there. That's what's cool about this league. That's uh 13 weeks at least. It's my 11-year-old would have punched the mic first.
SPEAKER_03:Sorry.
SPEAKER_05:All right, no, seriously. It was set up for my my uh 11-year-old nephew, but um who's who's football obsessed. All right, yeah, cool. But it also got like my uh my cousin's daughter, Alexis, who's probably nine or ten. She 10 10-year-old, she's in. And then my dad, who's never done fantasy squat before, is in the league. My cousin John in Chicago. It's like a really neat little lighthearted league, and she's in. There's no money, and we did it all so that Cohen, who's football obsessed, could like it. And he's just getting his buttons. Oh my god. So I'm like, oh man.
SPEAKER_03:Uncle August, how do you do so well? Uncle August. She's winning.
SPEAKER_02:She's cool. Oh my god, you're everybody. Who's your key? Who's your quarterback? I pick uh Mahomes. Okay. But I picked all of my players while I was making jello shots for the Ham Tramic Labor Day Festival. And I was like, oh, he's cute. Oh, I'm not sure. You were like, I like the color of the jersey. Let's go with that. That's literally how I picked it.
SPEAKER_05:Like her best pick was drafting that that Jets uh wide receiver who's been a stud so far this year.
SPEAKER_00:But just ass looks really good in uh football. I go, Who do you want?
SPEAKER_05:She goes, Is there a New York Jet available? I'm like, yeah. It's literally I then I drafted for her, but we're mixing jello shots.
SPEAKER_03:Is there anyone wearing tight pants? They're all wearing. They're all wearing tight pants.
SPEAKER_02:Thank gosh for that. That's the only way I get through football season.
SPEAKER_05:She's already like, is it still football season? Hashtag no cups. Here we go. It's only week four, baby. It's only week four.
SPEAKER_03:Is this uh the Rolling Stones sticky finger album cover? What?
SPEAKER_05:Hockey doesn't start till after New Year's. Jesus.
SPEAKER_00:I know. Wow, that was digression. How about that?
SPEAKER_02:All right, kids. But I'm winning, that's the point. Winning, winning, winning, winning.
SPEAKER_05:We were talking about winning before. Yeah, we were like We have to leave here and go to Eastern Palace Club. You do? And go pick up a check for the Magnum for Magnum 12 for the Hero Foundation. Excellent. I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_03:Because they were contributing uh a bucket drink. A bucket drink. And they were that's brilliant. So that's cool, man. That's where we're off to next. I love the Eastern Palace folks, man. They're great people.
SPEAKER_05:They're great people.
SPEAKER_00:That was a that was a good party, and Kat, you were an amazing hostess throughout the evening as well.
SPEAKER_02:Jamie. Jamie's the real deal right here. He's like made the whole party. He wasn't there. He wasn't there. I wasn't there. He wasn't there. I'm sorry, it was just your present that you brought.
SPEAKER_03:Saturday life. Saturday life.
SPEAKER_02:No, that's what I was talking about. Oh, you oh, I wasn't the hostess for Magnum. You're talking about Magnum. Oh, I just oh, that's all him. Yeah. I thought you were talking about Magnus.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, she you know she's yeah, you were still a hostess.
SPEAKER_00:You were still a hostess.
SPEAKER_02:You were still you were hawking tickets.
SPEAKER_05:Had that great Magnum dress on.
unknown:Yeah, the whole thing.
SPEAKER_05:I got the picture to prove it. Yeah. That was a good party. I sent Jen Sherry just today. I sent her a really lovely note. I was like, I'm like, you know what? I haven't thanked her personally yet. So I put a thing on her page saying, look, your stuff was a great draw. You were so wonderful to have involved. Thank you so much. We hit about 5k, we think. Oh, nice. What's uh is that uh up there with the the biggest one ever. We had a couple, I can't remember if they were tracksuits or magnums when uh Detroit Bikes was giving us bikes. Ah, yeah. We had like three or four like that, and we were selling twenty dollar tickets for that. And we started selling them a month ahead of time. Wow, because we knew that Zach was gonna give us a big one. That's who owns cannons. Oh, same guy. Sweet. So um, yeah, so we we did a lot. We would we would start with 600 bucks, 700 bucks in the bucket before we even started. Right. Uh because Zach was just so kind and give us a bike.
