Man Cave Happy Hour

"Kalimotxo: The Cocktail You Didn't See Coming"

Man Cave Happy Hour

Send us a text

Dive into a cocktail experiment gone hilariously wrong as we tackle the Kalimotxo—an unusual Spanish drink that mixes red wine with Coca-Cola. This strange combination dates back to the 1920s when festival organizers in Spain discovered their wine was terrible and desperately needed a fix. Their solution? Mask it with Coca-Cola, creating what we dub "the original Fyre Festival of cocktails."

We explore the Tempranillo wine used in our experiment, discussing the rich characteristics of this Spanish grape variety known for its full body and deep ruby color. Despite our best efforts (and even adding bitters and lemon), the verdict is unanimous—some cocktails exist more as cautionary tales than recommendations. As Matt perfectly puts it, it's "like a mistake that you just drink."

The episode takes an exciting turn when we unbox "Murder on the Rocks," a cocktail-themed murder mystery game featuring characters like Ginny Tonic and Absinthe Abby. Get a sneak peek at our upcoming game night where we'll be joined by the game's creator to solve mysteries while mixing drinks.

Between sips and laughs, we share plenty of dad jokes (including one that August has been saving for 42 years), discuss Pride Month celebrations, and preview our packed schedule of upcoming episodes.

Whether you're a cocktail enthusiast curious about unusual drink combinations or simply enjoy our brand of spirited conversation, this episode offers plenty of laughs, lessons about what NOT to mix, and a reminder that sometimes the best discoveries come from trying something new—even when the results aren't what you expected!

I said hey, hey, welcome to the man Cave Happy Hour. I said hey hey, welcome to the man Cave Happy Hour. We're gonna drink a fine whiskey and smoke a really fine cigar.

Jamie Flanagan: 0:24

It is time for Happy Hour. It is the man Cave Happy Hour Whiskey, cigars, spirits, the stories that go along with it. I'm Jamie Flanagan, I am Matt Fox.

August Gitschlag: 0:33

I just saved my own name. Yes, this is not how this is done. I'm August.

Matt Fox: 0:39

Hi August, how are you guys?

Jamie Flanagan: 0:40

Welcome back yeah nice to be back. Yeah, it's June. Yes, it's Pride Month. Woo, are you prideful? Oh, yeah, so LGBTQ I've been trying to find out what it stands for.

August Gitschlag: 0:53

What's it stand for?

Jamie Flanagan: 0:53

Can't get a straight answer. Oh boy All right Ba-dum-bum.

August Gitschlag: 0:59

I didn't make it to Motor City Pride, city Pride. I had a great time at Ferndale Pride this year, and it wasn't a thousand degrees like it was the last couple years. So I like to go to Motor City, though, and do the parade.

Jamie Flanagan: 1:09

That's always fun, oh hell yeah.

Matt Fox: 1:10

Alright, if you're going to break out dad jokes.

Jamie Flanagan: 1:15

We just got past.

Matt Fox: 1:15

Father's Day Might as well, man.

Jamie Flanagan: 1:17

Might as well, bring one, you gotta bring it.

Matt Fox: 1:19

You know, if you ever get kidnapped by a mime, they'll do unspeakable things to you. Oh boy.

August Gitschlag: 1:27

I waited all week for this.

Matt Fox: 1:28

Yes, you did.

August Gitschlag: 1:30

Couldn't wait to get here today.

Matt Fox: 1:31

What happens when a periscope and a telescope come together? They kaleidoscope.

August Gitschlag: 1:41

You just get a fresh batch for the holidays. Is this what you get in the greeting cards from your kids?

Jamie Flanagan: 1:46

The dad joke toilet paper he's on a roll. Get out the butter.

Matt Fox: 1:52

I'm on a roll.

August Gitschlag: 1:53

When do we start drinking?

Jamie Flanagan: 1:55

Oh, we're drinking, I'm drinking. I am drinking A welcome cocktail, but speaking of cocktails, we are we're doing now it's out of my head again. It's the Cala mocho, cala mocho, cala mocho. Uh, it is red wine and coca cola this is actually a thing, people.

August Gitschlag: 2:14

I didn't believe it. When he sent him like this is what we're doing, I'm like, yeah, that's some bullshit. You made that stuff up.

Jamie Flanagan: 2:18

It's like no, so here it is. Here's the backstory. Uh, it's the original fire festival at the 1920s. Right, there was a big festival happening uh, in in spain, right, and uh, the festival organizers start cracking open the red wine. And it's ass, it's horrible. The red wine is bad.

August Gitschlag: 2:39

They're like what are we gonna do? Is we got this bad batch of wine and all these all. What are we going to?

Jamie Flanagan: 2:43

do. Let's go 50-50 on Coca-Cola with it, and then it became a drink in the region and it spread from there. So it's the original fire festival clusterfuck of a cocktail.

August Gitschlag: 2:59

Bologna and cheese on a piece of white bread for lunch, yeah, so this is, and then temp temper Nilo, uh, matt.

Jamie Flanagan: 3:07

Google temper temper Nilo, um, so that's what we got. What? No QR code on this. I'm kidding. Yeah, temper Nilo is right there, um, but no, just that's the great part, right? So, temper wine too, if you want to. But, um, I just want to start because that's the grape. I picked this bottle up. I went to keiko's our friends uh, at keiko's that joe was there and giovanni's big on the wines too. But uh, joe was there and I'm like, joe, we're gonna do this cocktail and it's uh half coke, half red wine.

August Gitschlag: 3:35

He's like really, so he's like all right I so I so I go.

Jamie Flanagan: 3:42

I want a nice bottle, but we're mixing it with Coke 50-50, so why go crazy? I'm like somewhere between 50-20 bucks, All right, so what?

Matt Fox: 3:51

do you want to know about the Tempranillo?

August Gitschlag: 3:52

I make wine, so the Tempranillo juice is hard to get. It's one of the more expensive things that we try to get a hold of. It's very full-flavored, it's really red, it's really red it's dark, dark.

Jamie Flanagan: 4:04

He said it's like a cab but might have a little bit more fruity body to it. It's like a little more fruity body cab. If you're comparing to something and this is the Roja, that means it's been aged for a little longer in barrels. So it's been aged a little longer in barrels. But what do we know about the Tempranillo grapes? Are they temperamental?

August Gitschlag: 4:29

Is that why they went bad in the 1920s? This is going to be a dad joke episode like front to back. I'm not a dad so I can't, you know, make muster here.

Jamie Flanagan: 4:39

It's a lemon circle, the whole circle. If you could do that for me. So the tempered, tempered red wine grape it's actually known for producing a more of a full body here. Yeah, for a dry wines with a.

August Gitschlag: 4:56

It's got a really deep, uh ruby red color that we're going to see in a moment ruby, ruby, ruby so the flavor very much so like your red fruits, like your plums, and what have you?

Matt Fox: 5:04

you probably get a little bit of that, you might get a little leather, according to what I'm looking at here. I always look for shoe leather in my cocktails, yeah right, yeah, but the way that when they age it you might get a little vanilla from the oak barrels. Now the oak aging.

Jamie Flanagan: 5:18

if you will, they do. Yeah, that's what he said. This is aged a little longer.

Matt Fox: 5:22

And then the Spanish regions like Rioja and Ribera del Duer is where these grapes come from man.

August Gitschlag: 5:28

Are you Spanish man? You said that perfectly.

Jamie Flanagan: 5:30

Thank you, it's almost like you're off the boat, hey, thanks, Appreciate that.

Matt Fox: 5:34

C Careful.

Jamie Flanagan: 5:35

Ice might break in. Oh, I know, too soon, too soon.

August Gitschlag: 5:38

No, I think we'll be okay.

Jamie Flanagan: 5:46

No, we don't have any soup plates in here. Sorry, we don't have any. Oh, it's a cultural and sensitive moment. Is there a?

August Gitschlag: 5:49

reason we have Mexican Coke to go with the Spanish wine.

Jamie Flanagan: 5:52

Is it just?

August Gitschlag: 5:52

because you wanted to get the good, clean, real sugar.

Jamie Flanagan: 5:56

I wanted to get I figured while we're doing it might as well get a nice bottled Coca-Cola and not do it.

August Gitschlag: 6:02

I know you like it in the can, I like it in the can, everybody likes it in the can, but I figured so are we doing this? Is it done? Do we know if this is supposed to be on the rocks or just straight heat? Um?

Jamie Flanagan: 6:17

is there a preference? Is there a? You know, according to food and winecom, it's an equal split three ounces, three, three ounces, or however you want to make it Now. Actually, Food and Wine calls for a dash of bitters on, like all recipes. Just the two things Do we want to add?

August Gitschlag: 6:39

to it. We can drink it and then add the bitters. Bitters are a nice little dash. Do we need it or not.

Jamie Flanagan: 6:43

I just want a reason to get Matt to get up and Drink it. And then add the bitters.

August Gitschlag: 6:46

Bitters are a nice little dash Yep If we need it.

Jamie Flanagan: 6:48

So yeah, we could, Whether we need it or not?

Matt Fox: 6:50

Yeah, I just want a reason to get Matt to get up and go get better. Yeah, there you go, okay.

Jamie Flanagan: 6:54

So fill a tall glass with ice, Pour the red wine and cola. Garnish with a slice of lemon. Oh so they say with ice, yes, ice. So fill a glass with ice first.

August Gitschlag: 7:03

All right, and then fill with. Are we just going to go with our glassware sponsors today? Yes, and I figured we'd go with the Firebird Tavern Rocks glasses. All right.

Jamie Flanagan: 7:13

I've seen it served in wine glasses, I've seen it served in Collins glasses and I've seen this served in Rocks glasses.

August Gitschlag: 7:19

Have you seen it served in Red Solo cups?

Jamie Flanagan: 7:26

All classy solo cups. All classy like we do. Yeah, red solo cup, all right. So I opened up. I bought two bottles of coke I didn't know how big of cocktails we're gonna make and matt said let's pump the brakes. I had a enjoyable father's day.

Matt Fox: 7:33

So I had a good father's day. I had a good father's day weekend yeah yeah, that's good, are you gonna?

August Gitschlag: 7:38

finger bang us all some ice yeah, I'm doing that right now I got it in. I got to say finger bang on the podcast again.

Matt Fox: 7:46

Yeah, Saturday. I was out in your alma mater area.

August Gitschlag: 7:50

August East Lansing.

Matt Fox: 7:51

I was out in East Lansing for lunch or early dinner, I should say it was like, since I'm old now. But then yesterday we had brunch with my other kiddos at Kona Grill here in the Troy area, had some mimosas watermelon.

August Gitschlag: 8:07

Very many, many colorful mimosas were being consumed in the pictures you sent out watermelon, mimosa, strawberry mimosa, peach, mimosas. It was just, they were just flying out of the bar well, since we uh, we're gonna have an extra social hour this year. Uh, this week we're gonna see each other again on uh, on thursday at the ball game. Yeah I dived into those slushy drinks man, those sticky tiger slush things are just so darn good, aren't they called the yard something.

August Gitschlag: 8:31

Well, I didn't get the big old. I didn't want to carry around the sticky cup all day, Alright, so how do we do this here?

Jamie Flanagan: 8:36

Just pour that shit?

August Gitschlag: 8:39

No, I'm not worried about measuring it. This doesn't seem like a very scientific cocktail.

Matt Fox: 8:43

Do we start with the wine first or the cola first?

August Gitschlag: 8:45

They started with the wine and their description of it. They want the wine to go over the ice.

Jamie Flanagan: 8:49

Yeah, all right, so one, two, three, four, I don't know.

August Gitschlag: 8:55

Call us a hillbilly sangria. I don't know.

Matt Fox: 8:58

One, two, three, four, that's man cave measurement right there.

August Gitschlag: 9:03

Would you like your chunk of lemon sir?

Jamie Flanagan: 9:06

Thank you.

Matt Fox: 9:07

Oh, look at that.

August Gitschlag: 9:08

Oh, that's for me.

Jamie Flanagan: 9:11

Almost blew the whole thing. I was pouring the cola first.

August Gitschlag: 9:13

I don't know what I'm expecting here.

Jamie Flanagan: 9:14

I really don't know what to expect.

August Gitschlag: 9:18

We used to do red wine and red bull shots and called them Jesus bombs back in the day.

Matt Fox: 9:21

Jesus bombs yeah. Red wine Church yeah, alright, I got it, called them Jesus bombs back in the day, jesus bombs yeah. Red wine Church. Yeah, I got it. Alright, I got. Oh, look at that, I see that.

Jamie Flanagan: 9:32

That looks like fun. It is a deep Before you pour in the Coke in. It is a deep, deep red.

August Gitschlag: 9:37

Oh yeah, they're a dark, dark, red wine.

Matt Fox: 9:41

I'm curious. You just take the wedge and just throw it on top.

Jamie Flanagan: 9:46

It's just presentation.

August Gitschlag: 9:47

Oh okay. Finger banged your wedge.

Jamie Flanagan: 9:51

I'm going to get a picture of this lovely cocktail. Where'd my phone go? It's in my pocket. What's he's got in his pocket? I thought you were just happy to see me what's in his pocket, precious.

August Gitschlag: 10:05

All right, the old upside down cocktail picture. It's a thing.

Matt Fox: 10:10

I just pulled the key on. You know what?

August Gitschlag: 10:12

makes strikingly good radio the sound of taking pictures.

Matt Fox: 10:15

Oh yeah, there were chewing jelly.

Jamie Flanagan: 10:19

Click, click, click, click, click. We got all the, all the good stuff. All right, gentlemen, there we go. Who's going to say what it's?

August Gitschlag: 10:25

called again.

Matt Fox: 10:26

It's called the oh shoot, calimoco, calimoco.

Jamie Flanagan: 10:32

Calimoco. It sounds made up.

August Gitschlag: 10:33

Like a completely made up, invented thing.

Jamie Flanagan: 10:37

Okay, it's like a. I want to sip the wine on its own.

August Gitschlag: 10:45

Yeah, I want to sip the Coke on its own. I just want to sip the wine on its own. Yeah, I want to sip the Coke on its own. I just want to eat the lemon wedge. There you go. Best of both worlds. I don't know, fellas, where's that bitters? Yeah, I'll be right back.

Jamie Flanagan: 10:59

Orange or Angostura or the other one. There's a couple choices, probably your standard Angostura, just a straight up white label.

August Gitschlag: 11:04

Angostura or the other one there's a couple choices, probably your standard, angostura, just a straight up white label.

Jamie Flanagan: 11:10

Angostura. It's very dry, it's a very dry cocktail.

August Gitschlag: 11:12

Even with the Coca-Cola it's very dry.

Jamie Flanagan: 11:14

Yeah, and it's not fizzy at all. The fizz went away. No, it's fizzless, because I got the Coke at Keiko's too. Did Joe sell me some flat Cokes? No, it's got fizz in it.

August Gitschlag: 11:29

It's never as fizzy as the stuff you're expecting.

Jamie Flanagan: 11:31

Yeah, all right. So, maybe you dunk. You dunk in your lemon dunk the lemon.

August Gitschlag: 11:36

He says a little mixer dunk the lemon, dunk the lemon.

Jamie Flanagan: 11:41

All right. So how many Two?

Matt Fox: 11:43

three. I just said like three.

Jamie Flanagan: 11:44

Usually three is the call for it's better Also jumping the lemon in.

August Gitschlag: 11:49

there is the right move. Yeah, that is a lot better actually. Also, why would you buy a letter and cut it up just to look at it?

Jamie Flanagan: 11:58

Oh, now it's a cocktail. Now it's a cocktail.

August Gitschlag: 11:59

With the bitters it's a cocktail. Before, it was like a mistake that you just drank, which is basically the origin of the drink.

Matt Fox: 12:06

Yeah, it was the fire festival. Fuck up, that should be the name of this.

Jamie Flanagan: 12:12

The Cali Mocho fire festival I wouldn't do this again.

August Gitschlag: 12:15

No, I might do it as a party trick. Hey guys, they call something the Soshimoko and we're going to try it. It's like the locomotion of Spain, cali Mo. Guys, they call something a Soshimoko and we're going to try it. It's like the locomotion of Spain, calimocho. Yeah, open up a can of Coke and give me some of that wine Watch this, check this shit out here, hold my beer.

Matt Fox: 12:31

Here smell this yeah.

August Gitschlag: 12:37

I mean I'm going to finish it yeah. Yeah, I don't know. It's better with the bitters.

Matt Fox: 12:42

Definitely better with the bitters so, uh, august, what did the, uh, what did the elephant say to the, to the naked man what? How can you breathe through that thing? Okay, no, full disclosure. I heard that when I was I had to have been seven or eight years old. I am 50 years old. I've been hanging on to this joke for 42 years.

August Gitschlag: 13:09

Just the right dork to give it, just the right moment.

Matt Fox: 13:12

And that's me, yeah, but my today, it was my grandfather, lucky me that uh was on the phone with a friend of his and he said that joke over the phone and I have never forgotten it how can you breathe through that? How do?

August Gitschlag: 13:22

you breathe through that thing. How do you breathe through that thing? How do you? All right, so we're going to try the wine on its own now.

Jamie Flanagan: 13:28

Yeah, I want this Fostina.

August Gitschlag: 13:29

Now we're going to try the Spanish wine.

Jamie Flanagan: 13:32

If you want to, I brought three little tasting cups if you wanted to try the wine.

Matt Fox: 13:37

That's okay. Yeah, I'll take a small.

August Gitschlag: 13:39

I will enjoy the wine. A very small nip.

Jamie Flanagan: 13:41

There you go.

August Gitschlag: 13:45

Take, take one down, pass it around, all right, all right, here we go, and we went with Faustina Collection.

Jamie Flanagan: 13:51

That's what Joe suggested.

Matt Fox: 13:53

Here let's go into Communion fellas.

Jamie Flanagan: 13:57

I know, this is very dry.

Matt Fox: 14:01

Is it?

Jamie Flanagan: 14:02

As the base. This was super dry. Yeah, this is like.

August Gitschlag: 14:06

Stretch.

Matt Fox: 14:08

You can smell the dryness. Oh, that sticks. It's so dry, it's sticking.

August Gitschlag: 14:18

Yeah, 27 proof, that's a 13.5%.

Jamie Flanagan: 14:23

Finish that bottle a little bit.

August Gitschlag: 14:24

Yeah, your tongue is a Finish that bottle a little bit, it'll, it'll get the job done.

Matt Fox: 14:29

You might have some really purple teeth and tongue, yeah.

August Gitschlag: 14:33

Better brush your teeth that day. It's going to definitely stain all the cheese in between your teeth when you smile.

Matt Fox: 14:41

That's, that's attractive.

Jamie Flanagan: 14:44

That is a thing. So, yeah, it was like you thought, because it was like, oh, spanish, spain and wine, and you thought it was, uh, you're like where's mrs vino?

August Gitschlag: 14:53

right, I assume she'd be here. No, it's the only reason I showered.

Jamie Flanagan: 14:56

It was just a it was just a happy accident that uh, you know yeah because we just if you go back an episode or two, she had a a spanish wine dinner, right right, and she's got a curated tour.

August Gitschlag: 15:04

We're doing more spanish stuff it's got to be one of you know yeah, cause we. Just if you go back an episode or two she had a a Spanish wine dinner, right Right, and she's got a curated tour. We're doing more Spanish stuff. It's gotta be one of Carl's, yeah, no this was just my wonky idea.

Jamie Flanagan: 15:18

It is wonky, and then I but, and then I was like, hey, it would be Well done. It's stocked up. It is. It has been talking.

Matt Fox: 15:24

Yeah, I don't know, talk I don't know if I can even finish it Fellas.

Jamie Flanagan: 15:29

The cocktail or just the one. That's because you're hung over?

August Gitschlag: 15:31

No, I'm not hung over at all, I just Did you not say, you got at it last night?

Matt Fox: 15:35

I did say I got at it, but I'm not hung over and you told. And.

August Gitschlag: 15:40

I pressured him.

Matt Fox: 15:42

No, there was no pressure.

August Gitschlag: 15:44

There's always some pressure.

Jamie Flanagan: 15:46

Yeah. You're going to feel a slight pressure.

Matt Fox: 15:50

Feel just a little prick, feel a pinch.

Jamie Flanagan: 15:52

Just a little prick.

August Gitschlag: 15:55

How'd you breathe through that thing?

Matt Fox: 15:58

See Full circle, baby. I am looking forward to Thursday this week to go take in some baseball.

August Gitschlag: 16:08

It's unfortunate that they won't allow us to broadcast from the Pepsi porch or the light lounge. I can bring a mic, you can't. They won't let you record there without media credentials.

Matt Fox: 16:20

Have you not Major League Baseball?

August Gitschlag: 16:21

game this big. Well, we can just use our phones then and get sound bites Right right. Yeah, All right, we can just use our phones then and get sound bites Right right? Maybe we'll do that.

Jamie Flanagan: 16:29

I can smuggle it there's ways.

August Gitschlag: 16:36

Smuggle it in my pants.

Matt Fox: 16:38

Is that a microphone, or are you just happy to see me?

August Gitschlag: 16:41

I'm happy to see you.

Jamie Flanagan: 16:43

Do we want to do a little unboxing?

August Gitschlag: 16:45

Yeah, what do we got coming up?

Jamie Flanagan: 16:47

I don't know when it's coming up it's going to be game night on the man Cave Happy Hour. We didn't schedule this one yet we didn't put a date down.

August Gitschlag: 16:55

No, it is. I sent a calendar. Yeah, I'm skipping DCFC to play games with y'all.

Jamie Flanagan: 17:01

Yes, colleen may actually come and play.

Matt Fox: 17:08

Play games at y'all yes, um colleen may actually come and play. So uh, it's like, yeah, she never comes, she, she hates I'm sorry, I think I think I know the 25th, the 25th we're going to see our friend mr harden down in st claire show that's what we're supposed to be doing the day before yeah, the day before that's the, the three, the three episode week right.

August Gitschlag: 17:24

Monday.

Jamie Flanagan: 17:24

Wednesday, thursday, yeah, and Wednesday we'll be at the Butter Run Saloon, and then on Thursday we'll be back in the studio playing drinking games, a board game, and it's called Murder on Ice. Oh boy, and it has nothing to do with Tanya and Nancy.

August Gitschlag: 17:46

No one died there. So is this the plain brown box that it arrived in?

Jamie Flanagan: 17:52

That would be better if they had. It would be way more interesting.

Matt Fox: 17:58

They'd still be behind bars.

Jamie Flanagan: 18:00

So it's a little unboxed. I feel like Ming Chen.

August Gitschlag: 18:05

A little podcast your voice, our version of the shared universe.

Jamie Flanagan: 18:10

So it's Jill from Misfit Mixers. Okay, and Jill is going to be with us and she invented the game and she sent me.

Matt Fox: 18:19

She's going to come in streaming.

Jamie Flanagan: 18:21

Yeah, she's going to join us, so I thought we could play it. I don't know. And streaming, uh, yeah, she's gonna join us, so I thought we could play it. I don't know, and again, we'll look at it and see how complicated it is.

August Gitschlag: 18:28

If it involves drinking, it's not gonna be that complicated.

Jamie Flanagan: 18:29

Otherwise she already has a failed product so yeah, but murder on the rocks, and it's like the she sent me the instruction book. Is it murder?

Matt Fox: 18:38

on ice or murder on the rocks murder on the rocks?

Jamie Flanagan: 18:42

all right, I like murder on ice so yeah, that was kind of fun murder, murder on the rocks, um, I just I think of, like, tanya and nancy, all right, so murder on the rock. So, uh, where mystery is served with a twist, okay, and this is a 67 page instruction manual. 67 pages. I haven't read 67 pages of anything since college.

August Gitschlag: 19:06

Um, all right, all right.

Jamie Flanagan: 19:08

67 pages well, it's like it's a drinking game. Well it's, there's illustrations.

Matt Fox: 19:15

I hope so you got pictures, right? No, this is like she sent me I don't know.

Jamie Flanagan: 19:21

The book is a book that I don't know. She sent me the PDF of the book. This is all beta testing and crowdsourcing.

August Gitschlag: 19:30

Yes.

Jamie Flanagan: 19:31

Okay, all right. So opening up the box for some nice bubble wrap map Crack away.

August Gitschlag: 19:35

Oh thank you. You know that sounds good on a mic.

Jamie Flanagan: 19:39

Oh, I just dropped oh.

Matt Fox: 19:41

I love it. Oh, yes, you want sexy.

Jamie Flanagan: 19:45

There it is oh right, yeah, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, there's blindfolds too.

Matt Fox: 19:50

Oh boy, oh talk about Pride.

Jamie Flanagan: 19:51

Month.

August Gitschlag: 19:52

So blindfolds, and it's a shaker, it's a very cool shaker. Shaker and little parts. Okay, and then there's a Blindfolds.

Jamie Flanagan: 20:00

I lifted it up and the shaker lid fell off. I opened it up upside down.

August Gitschlag: 20:04

Okay.

Jamie Flanagan: 20:05

Everything fell out. We've got tarot cards of some sort and two vials here Vials.

August Gitschlag: 20:15

All right, they're like eyedroppers. Oh man, they are vials.

Jamie Flanagan: 20:18

Wow, so this is like, is it?

August Gitschlag: 20:23

One is water, one is vodka. Stick out your tongue the murder.

Matt Fox: 20:27

One says the murder weapon and the other says essence of envy oh, uh, so there's two eyedroppers, okay, two uh glass eyedroppers, okay, droppers, and you put uh, then you got the shaker itself.

Jamie Flanagan: 20:40

That had like 10 blindfolds. So before we got a game, i'm'm just curious.

Matt Fox: 20:44

Do you put the alcohol in the dropper? We haven't gotten there yet, matt. God, I'm trying to figure this out.

Jamie Flanagan: 20:50

He hasn't opened up the 67-page instructions yet. Here's the rule book.

Matt Fox: 20:53

I don't read instructions. Are you kidding me?

Jamie Flanagan: 20:56

There's, I think, a little funnel for filling the vials and there's some tokens.

August Gitschlag: 21:02

Oh yes, tokens, Tokens, tokens. They're not coupons, are they? No, they're tokens.

Jamie Flanagan: 21:09

They've got different symbols on them Tokens, all right. It's a nice shaker. It's a nice big shaker Murder on the Rocks.

Matt Fox: 21:17

Murder on the Rocks. Give me that, can I see your knife real quick?

August Gitschlag: 21:21

We can't get into the instructions. It's too difficult, it's too difficult.

Matt Fox: 21:23

It's not difficult. I just don't want to tear them. What did I do with my knife? Is it by the box? What's in the?

August Gitschlag: 21:27

box. I knew that was coming Underneath your bubble wrap. Yes, there it is I mean, I had one in my pocket, you could have just asked for All right, it's actually in the car, so there's several different colored cards. There's some fuchsia. It's a nice little logo on that. A little Murder on the Rocks logo is kind of cool.

Jamie Flanagan: 21:48

Ricky Bellini, the flamboyant actor, lazario Amaretto, the reclusive author, and I think there's cocktails that go with each of these things.

August Gitschlag: 22:00

Blackthorn the stoic bodyguard. There's a little prep work here. We'll have to get here at six next week, vermouth Graves, disgruntled Butler.

Jamie Flanagan: 22:08

The Butler did it. I like the looks of this guy. The artwork on these is very, very cool too. Ali Contro, elegant Duchess. There's some very cool artwork on these. These are who you are, ginny Tonic. Ginny Tonic, ginny Tonic.

August Gitschlag: 22:26

It looks like old Aunt Ginny.

Jamie Flanagan: 22:29

Absinthe Abby Harper. A reserved librarian. These are the cocktail-themed characters.

Matt Fox: 22:35

These are the characters, yeah.

Jamie Flanagan: 22:37

Lily Manhattan. The charismatic socialite, mimosa Goldheart, gracious philanthropanthropist, all right. And then there's a whole series of purple cards with like rooms and evidence. We're going to have to do a little research prior to showtime next week oh yeah.

August Gitschlag: 22:57

And then there's like there's organized crowbar, drowning, fire, poker, your clue.

Jamie Flanagan: 23:02

This is kind of like your weapons.

Matt Fox: 23:04

So the objective of the entire game of murder on the rocks is to determine the identity of the murderer among the guests or, if you are the murderer, to get away. Players examine clues, interrogate suspects and use their deductive skills to solve the mystery all right, right the grounds, the ballroom, the bathroom.

August Gitschlag: 23:27

It's a clue with cocktails. The study, yeah.

Jamie Flanagan: 23:30

It seems fun though.

August Gitschlag: 23:31

Hopefully the trademark wasn't locked up. She could do this.

Jamie Flanagan: 23:36

Yeah, I think it's different to now.

August Gitschlag: 23:37

There's an amazing documentary about Monopoly.

Jamie Flanagan: 23:40

It's fascinating.

August Gitschlag: 23:43

It was invented in Atlantic City.

Jamie Flanagan: 23:45

There's a few moving parts of this and you're gonna have to make cocktails. Yeah, we'll have to do a little reading on this, but we're really excited to sit down with jill. Yes, um, we'll fumble through it on our own first right and the but, the mind behind.

August Gitschlag: 23:56

It is always fun to have, and then yeah, and then we don't need any packing material matt's enamored with the bubble wrap.

Matt Fox: 24:03

You made a mistake, man.

Jamie Flanagan: 24:04

Bubble, bubble, bubble. So should we do the rest of the episode with our eyes wide shut.

August Gitschlag: 24:10

Yeah, I don't know why he blindfolds.

Matt Fox: 24:14

There's a lot of blindfolds in there too. It's really tough to come up with new games these days because everything is so digital. You know, find them on your phones. It's difficult to come up with a objective of a game that hasn't been done before right, but then you put your own spin on it and make it your own make it a cocktail one.

Jamie Flanagan: 24:33

You know what?

August Gitschlag: 24:34

now this has been sitting and I've come back to um the wine and coca-cola yeah, it's got a sangria vibe to it that you know not once you put the lime in there. The lemon, the lemon in there.

Jamie Flanagan: 24:44

Yeah, it's got a little bit more. Got a sangria vibe to it that you know once you put the lime in there.

August Gitschlag: 24:45

The lemon, the lemon in there, yeah.

Jamie Flanagan: 24:46

It's got a little bit more of a sangria fun to it.

Matt Fox: 24:49

Yes, I'll agree with that Still.

Jamie Flanagan: 24:55

I don't think.

August Gitschlag: 24:55

I'd do it again. No, I would never. I would never.

Matt Fox: 24:59

I would not seek this out.

August Gitschlag: 25:00

Yeah, I'm going to say, hey, hey, look you had any coke.

Jamie Flanagan: 25:07

It's really nice red wine here. You had any coke. It's like those people I didn't. Uh, yeah, well, I mean. And the other thing is it's like, well, how cheap of a wine do you want to buy to do it? I mean because you know the nicer, you know with, even with cocktails, right, the nicer bourbon you start with, the nicer whiskey you start with the nicer the cocktail is gonna be.

August Gitschlag: 25:23

that's, that's what they say you hope.

Jamie Flanagan: 25:25

But you know, you see people like making diet Coke and Pappy.

August Gitschlag: 25:35

Oh, I'm going to take that, wow, and it's like that's where I draw the line at the. Drink it however you like it. That's, you know, rich people's shit.

Jamie Flanagan: 25:41

Well, and you know, and that's, I've got the $.

August Gitschlag: 25:49

you know, trying to be like when he goes to the Ford house and they tell you, that's like, you know, uh, an ancient Ming dynasty vase that Mrs Ford turned into a lamp. Because Mrs Ford does whatever Mrs Ford wanted to do. They're like, oh, punch your dead body, whatever.

Jamie Flanagan: 26:06

All right, p Edsel, so well you could read. You could read it from it. From it that's actually. It becomes multifunctional. Not only is it a hunk of history, you can read about the Ming Dynasty. You can read about it.

Matt Fox: 26:19

By the light of the moon. Are they still finding statues of soldiers?

August Gitschlag: 26:22

Probably Terracotta warriors. They're finding something every day. Matthew, the world's a fascinating place.

Matt Fox: 26:30

Yes, it is. We haven't even scratched the surface.

August Gitschlag: 26:32

We have not. I think I've scratched the surface. We have not. I think I've scratched the surface of this cocktail and I don't like the smell yeah, yeah, no, I'm uh, I'm over it, but I'm I'm glad we now have this epic failure on our roster.

Jamie Flanagan: 26:43

We don't like everything. Yeah, we don't. We don't rubber stamp everything that no we don't here. Jamie had a really crap idea today no, it's not.

August Gitschlag: 26:52

That's not the criticism. It's. That's not the critter's not a criticism of your idea. It was a great idea. There's no bad idea.

Jamie Flanagan: 26:58

It's an awful cocktail, just just bad executions or bad, bad bad bad cocktail, now we have a bad result now.

August Gitschlag: 27:05

Now we know, now we don't do that don't mix your red wine with cola, mixing red wine with anything besides the sangria I think is, and even sangria is not necessarily my style. But I think this is a generic, not your style. Everybody would kind of agree.

Jamie Flanagan: 27:19

Do you have a favorite sangria? No, no, no.

August Gitschlag: 27:21

I don't have a lot of sangria in my life.

Matt Fox: 27:23

I really don't either.

Jamie Flanagan: 27:25

I love Xochimilco's. I love Xochimilco's, the sangria there.

August Gitschlag: 27:36

I weaseled the recipe out of them years ago. Um and it's uh, franzie, a box wine with some orange juice.

Jamie Flanagan: 27:39

And yeah, it is the orange juice. Yeah, because most places do like fruit juices, and it's, it's all about the tang.

August Gitschlag: 27:46

It's like this. It's like translucent.

Jamie Flanagan: 27:47

You know it's still clear, right, but it's got pulp in it, but the uh, social media goes, you can't see through like orange juice. You can't see through. Right, it's got. Yeah, that it, but the social media goes you can't see through it, like orange juice, you can't see through it. That's the difference there.

August Gitschlag: 27:59

It's got that viscosity to it, so how many of these episodes we got next week?

Matt Fox: 28:03

We have three or two, three.

August Gitschlag: 28:04

Are we doing Monday or no?

Jamie Flanagan: 28:07

Or just Wednesday, thursday I don't know what we got on Monday, so much action in the man cave.

August Gitschlag: 28:16

No summer vacations here, guys. Monday's up it's a detroit fireworks. Oh, that's right. That's right, do you do?

Jamie Flanagan: 28:19

the detroit fireworks.

August Gitschlag: 28:21

I do not okay, but I mean, well, one year we went up on the roof of hamtramck city hall yeah, but like five of my friends and a cooler and wash it from up there.

Jamie Flanagan: 28:28

That was kind of fun, yeah so yeah, we have uh tickets for that detroit princess right down on the water.

August Gitschlag: 28:33

It's about from here to the parking lot. I've been there. It's crazy. Yeah, I've been on a boat for the fireworks several times. It's a unique experience.

Matt Fox: 28:41

Well, just don't catch fire. That's all I have to say.

Jamie Flanagan: 28:44

Stop drop and roll. Stop drop and roll.

August Gitschlag: 28:48

Right off the side of the boat.

Matt Fox: 28:49

Yeah, Maybe we'll ride our bikes down to the Quinter Cut or something.

Jamie Flanagan: 28:58

Go check it out. Have fun, fellas, I'll watch it on TV.

August Gitschlag: 29:00

I think that's about it.

Jamie Flanagan: 29:01

Yeah, it's 30 minutes of bad cocktail. We had a fun unboxing and a fun time making a mediocre cocktail, yeah.

August Gitschlag: 29:09

I had the rest of that Coke to get this flavor out of my mouth.

Jamie Flanagan: 29:11

Like subscribe. Leave a comment. Go to our website HTTP colon slash slash WWW. Oh man, happyhourcom. So I forget what I was listening to or watching, but they did. They didn't do the HTTP, but they did the WW. I'm like really. Still got a. Still really got a. Are you new?

Matt Fox: 29:36

Are you? That's are you just fresh out.

Jamie Flanagan: 29:39

That's not a thing anymore.

August Gitschlag: 29:41

It's like an AOL dot com email address or something you know at hotmail. There are still people out there. It still has a rail.

Jamie Flanagan: 29:48

Well, yes, I was buying there's. It's coming up in September. We talk about the Tigers there. I was buying it's coming up in September. We're talking about the Tigers. There's an Irish Heritage Night in September. It's September 17th, halfway to St Patrick's Day.

August Gitschlag: 29:59

They dropped the German one this year. Did they, but enjoy your Irish Heritage Night. Okay, flanagan.

Jamie Flanagan: 30:06

So they got the Irish Heritage Night and the two women, because the proceeds go to the St Patrick's Day Parade downtown and the two women running it. Both of their emails are AOL.

August Gitschlag: 30:18

I have to go find an old AIM program fired up and see if any of my old sleuths from the 20s are on there to chat with, oh my. Get that Friendster account.

Matt Fox: 30:28

That's a serious prospect.

August Gitschlag: 30:30

Instant messaging. Yeah all those things. I'm only on here to play Euchre, alright, boys?

Matt Fox: 30:41

See that guy over there, that's Jamie.

Jamie Flanagan: 30:43

Flanagan, that's August Gitschlag, sexy Matt Fox right next to me. We'll do it all again very, very soon, yeah, a couple times. I'll see you guys on Thursday at the game. See you Thursday fellas Cheers.
