David Wright - Motor City Hypno: 0:45

Ms Catherine Audette, hey Catherine.

Jamie Flanagan: 0:46

Hello hello, hi Catherine, hi, thanks for being here. It's in the Motor City, hypnotist. It's in the wings.

Jamie Flanagan: 0:59

Welcome to the Emerald City. Ah, yeah, right, that's what it is. We've moved to the Emerald City.

Matt Fox: 1:05

I'm so excited to see that on Thanksgiving Day. To be honest with you, Wicked.

August Gitschlag: 1:09

Yes, so excited to see that.

David Wright - Motor City Hypno: 1:12

So is my 11-year-old niece.

August Gitschlag: 1:13

You guys can sit together.

David Wright - Motor City Hypno: 1:15

Did you guys happen to hear the issue with that? They put out some toys with a QR code that goes to a porn website. It wasn't a QR code. They put Wickedcom, which everybody of our age knows what Wickedcom actually is Wicked awesome.

August Gitschlag: 1:34

It's supposed to be a wicked movie. That website goes back to VHS days of porn.

Jamie Flanagan: 1:38

That's how long.

Matt Fox: 1:39

Wickedcom has been that way I can't get a good signal on my TV.

Jamie Flanagan: 1:43

It's squiggle porn yeah.

August Gitschlag: 1:45

All right, anyway, everybody just want to welcome everyone to. It's a man cave Happy hour, starring Jamie Flanagan Behind the desk it feels like a tonight show yeah.

Jamie Flanagan: 1:55

Yeah, I was curious.

August Gitschlag: 1:56

Well you can say Sicily Tyson.

Jamie Flanagan: 1:59

No, no, no no, nice, nice pulse, but we're also going to preview Whiskey in the Winter.

Matt Fox: 2:07

Yeah, that's coming up on Friday.

Jamie Flanagan: 2:09

We're going to be doing shenanigans live downtown at the Detroit Shipping Company for Whiskey in the Winter. Tickets are still available.

August Gitschlag: 2:16

It's good to see you guys. It's been. I haven't seen you guys since before the election.

Matt Fox: 2:19

Yeah, since.

August Gitschlag: 2:20

I was in quarantine, you survived it, yeah, and then for the next two weeks. After that, her and I just escaped reality. I went to a Toledo walleye game in Toledo, nice. I highly recommend taking advantage of Toledo.

Jamie Flanagan: 2:33

Oh yeah, Very fun.

August Gitschlag: 2:35

The hockey game Go Rockets. It was an $18 ticket, oh man, to a stadium as new as the pizza box, really. But only one story.

Kat: 2:45

And the logo is a toothless walleye. Oh, come on, yes.

August Gitschlag: 2:52

And the uniforms. They have a Red Wings patch in the corner because they're affiliated, so our draft picks are playing there and so there's a lot of Red Wings fans. Everyone's wearing Wings gear. We stayed in a hotel for dirt cheap. The whole trip, including dinner and tickets in the hotel, cost less than two red wings tickets. Okay, yeah, yeah, well worth the trip it was fun, really fun sounds like a steal it's a value vacation

August Gitschlag: 3:16

and then I took her to that and then she made up to me by taking me return the favor by taking me to manhattan. Yeah, that's uh kind of the opposite use the flight benefit?

Kat: 3:25

Yeah, no, she's good, she's good, oh she's directional.

August Gitschlag: 3:29

It was fine she's directional.

Kat: 3:30

Okay so she's very, very good.

Jamie Flanagan: 3:32

But yeah, so it's a movie episode. It's a movie episode.

Matt Fox: 3:44

We're going to talk about Gladiator and Wicked, you have been really abusing those preview tickets. I don't like that word abuse.

August Gitschlag: 3:51

I don't like that word abuse. Well, get over it. He's been abusing those tickets.

Jamie Flanagan: 3:53

He's been accepting his invitations. Yeah, Wicked was yesterday. It was a weird one on a Sunday. It was like 2 o'clock on a Sunday. Normally they're like 7 o'clock Tuesday night or Thursday night.

August Gitschlag: 4:02

I feel like they're trying to put more and more people in for that one Right.

Matt Fox: 4:06

That's what they're doing with those matinees, I don't know.

August Gitschlag: 4:08

There's nothing at night that anyone's going to see right now. It's not like the theaters are full. No, it's crickets in the movie theaters right now. I was looking for something the other day, I'm like what am I going to see? Yeah, it was in theaters. But it got really good reviews and I think I'm going to buy that one on Amazon, alright.

Jamie Flanagan: 4:32

People are crazy about the Wicked, not just for the link, no, the movie itself is pretty cool, if you like the play, because I went to see it, but it's visually great.

Matt Fox: 4:48

Oh, it's stunning, Catherine.

Kat: 4:52

No, my sister and mom have seen it probably a hundred times.

Matt Fox: 4:55

So I've heard the music constantly. Yeah, I saw it at the Gershwin on a Sunday matinee a number of years ago.

Jamie Flanagan: 5:01

Yeah, I took Colleen to a Detroit At the.

August Gitschlag: 5:02

Gershwin, gershwin. I had matt fox's life. Yeah right, we walked past the gershwin. I said, oh, I'd be like to go there one day, one day well, now I can tell you what it was like.

Kat: 5:11

It was beautiful we should go back for a show, for sure but there were some uh cocktails.

Jamie Flanagan: 5:18

We're and we're going to talk about gladiator too, because that's coming out, but the, the movie the wicked, it was really, really good. There was a, a couple of cameos from, uh, some of the original broadway cast nice uh, because I'm trying not to spoiler it uh for people, but I have people watching the show now uh, so yeah, so the originals uh, they added a song, right, so it wasn't, uh, but it made sense and it worked into and it was nice because it wasn't.

Jamie Flanagan: 5:40

Uh. My dad, a professional drummer, uh, he's like, yeah, musicals they'd be great without all that singing and dancing.

August Gitschlag: 5:46

Yeah Well, I was going to say we are a drummer, we are grown ass men talking about Wicked yes, yes, yes, but there's because there's cocktails that go with it.

Jamie Flanagan: 5:58

But it was a nice mix.

August Gitschlag: 5:59

The movie was. My mom and sister saw it a hundred times. I don't even have an 11 year old niece, but if I did, she'd be the one sitting next to her.

Jamie Flanagan: 6:05

So so it, but there was. It was a nice mix between the song and dance. There wasn't a whole lot of dance. I know it was more just song. They're not a whole lot of dance, but there was and and the acting, and just acting, and dialogue and so, and so there was in story.

August Gitschlag: 6:30

So there was a nice mix, uh, between the two, because some musicals are just all song and dance sure, uh, and, and you know it, you know those are good too. Those are good for some people. I'm being me, I'm being a jerk, because it's kind of funny but visually but I do enjoy my broadway in detroit oh, I go to as many of those shows as I can.

Matt Fox: 6:39

That's where I did moulin rouge yeah, it was fantastic.

August Gitschlag: 6:43

I love they updated it with the new songs and modernized it. I mean, she's katherine pointed out what was the one connection you didn't think worked. It was, uh, because the the main character, was clearly gay, so believing that he was in love with this girl. In the movie you can feel the romance, but then like stage, you can clearly see there's no chemistry. He can keep looking out the corner of his eye at his buddy like, yeah, you're the one at long. There's nothing wrong with that.

Matt Fox: 7:12

I'll tell you the mashups. In Mulan Rouge you go from David Bowie to no Doubt, to.

August Gitschlag: 7:17

Outkast all at the same time. It blows your mind.

Matt Fox: 7:20

Come what may, Come what may yes to my rate.

Jamie Flanagan: 7:26

Yeah, come on, come what may. Yes, so, but I did. What got me excited about the, the cocktails for wicked is like this uh well, you know, in my your feed, you know you get all these little links and it was like direct from oz cocktails and I'm like now you're talking to me uh, and it looked like I thought it was like from the liquor distributor, but it's not.

Jamie Flanagan: 7:39

It's from a, it's from a group. Uh, that's kind of like our friend shaker and Spoon, right, okay, so it's a curated box, but they sell it with the liquors Really. Yeah, they sell it with the liquors I don't know. But again, michigan has issues with shipping so they may not be able to ship to Michigan. I was trying to buy something online. I was trying to buy Great Odin's Raven.

Kat: 8:08

Oh, my gosh line.

Jamie Flanagan: 8:08

I was trying to buy um great odin's raven. Oh my god, because there's a great, there's a great, there's a great odin's raven uh, bourbon, uh great odin's beard, bourbon. No, there's odin's raven, uh, bourbon. Yeah, no, no, he's like great odin's right, yeah, great, open great.

Matt Fox: 8:20

Odin's raven is the anchorman call yeah great we've, we've gone down this.

Jamie Flanagan: 8:27

And I was trying to buy it and I couldn't get it because they can't ship them in. There's issues with shipping in Michigan. But this curated box has some cool cocktails. So there's one with vodka, there's one with coffee liqueur Kahlua you like Kahlua, right, I do? That's kind of your jam. There's one with coffee liqueur Kahlua you like Kahlua, right, that's kind of your jam. There's one with Malibu rum. I don't like the coconut. And then there was one with Jameson's. I'm like, hey, you got me.

Kat: 8:55

Also, I know a flight attendant that can smuggle liquid you know, alcoholic beverages across state lines for you.

Jamie Flanagan: 9:01

Easily.

Kat: 9:02

If you need help getting great Odin, I do.

Jamie Flanagan: 9:08

I just want to know I'm on my shelf. I just, I just do it's probably transport.

David Wright - Motor City Hypno: 9:12

That's a good transport, Probably Legally.

Jamie Flanagan: 9:15

But but all right, so the yeah, the the Jameson's will be first, but there's an Osmopolitan which is with absolute vodka triple sec lime juice.

August Gitschlag: 9:27

I'll accept that name.

Matt Fox: 9:29

I see what they did there.

Jamie Flanagan: 9:30

But it's really just a straight up Cosmo.

August Gitschlag: 9:34

It's vodka, triple sec, lime juice and cranberry Wicked is an original idea, why would they reinvent the wheel for a cocktail?

Jamie Flanagan: 9:42

Say they have an espresso martini. So that's two parts absolute, one part Kahlua and then one part espresso. And then I'm like, oh, we could do that maybe, but I don't like. This Keurig that we have in here is like the weakest Keurig on the planet. So I was like I don't want to screw that. And then they have an Oz fashioned instead of an old-fashioned. Uh, it was jameson's orange and I'm actually intrigued by this. I got because I bought. I got a one at a big, uh raffle. I what did? A basket, a charity thing?

Jamie Flanagan: 10:18

okay, I got a big basket. There's more random booze on the show, the studio one. You didn't, yeah, yeah, yes, we all, uh. And so there was a tiny, tiny bottle of jameson's orange, right, just a little one shooter, airplane size and uh, I was like I kept that one at home and I tried, poured it over some I that was very, very nice. I wouldn't want to do a whole bunch of it doesn't suck. You want it to?

Matt Fox: 10:40

but I yeah, I can understand why they would use the orange jameson in an old, old-fashioned just because of the bitters.

Jamie Flanagan: 10:46

Right, right, yeah. So it's just regular Angostura bitters.

August Gitschlag: 10:50

So basically just doing a ginger and this Jameson ginger, this is blood and sand with the amaretto.

Jamie Flanagan: 10:58

That's a different one. The lime is for the Jamesons.

Kat: 11:04

Oh, the tall glasses is for the Jamesons.

Jamie Flanagan: 11:05

Oh the tall glasses are for the tall glasses.

August Gitschlag: 11:08

I can transfer that ice and those slices of food to the tall glasses. All right fair play.

Jamie Flanagan: 11:12

Watch this, that's why they're over there. And then the Jamesons and ginger. There's like eight different cocktails. This will be linked down in the descriptions for you. Then there's the Oz ginger and lime like eight different cocktails. This will be linked down in the descriptions for you. Then there's the Oz Ginger and Lime, which is one part Jameson's three parts ginger ale garnished with lime wedge.

August Gitschlag: 11:33

I'm going to do this the way that they make bartenders make drinks. Now they're not doing it with the ice in. You have to measure it. Use the jiggers you got to measure it so you can see what it looks like. The, how many ounces, because people are complaining they're getting short poured. Oh, you didn't hold it long enough. Oh, there's no booze in there.

Jamie Flanagan: 11:48

Five counts, so now they're like two, three, four, five ice, which is what I want to see.

August Gitschlag: 11:52

Yeah, but the younger generation gets all oh, you're short, me you're short. So bartenders are sick of this. You go home now. So they now pour their drinks. You'll see this all the time pouring the drinks before the ice goes in. Okay, all right, alcohol goes in, ice goes in. Then the mixer goes in.

Jamie Flanagan: 12:06

It says here fill a highball glass with ice. I've just said.

August Gitschlag: 12:10

I'm not doing that, Jamie.

Jamie Flanagan: 12:13

I'm reading the directions Add Jameson's original, top the glass With a good quality ginger ale, stir briefly to mix, squeeze in a large lime wedge, then drop into glass Two ounces of Jamo. What are we doing? It calls for one part, but we've got two cocktails to do and a taste. So yeah, two ounces. There you go. One. Well, that's a two-ounce shot glass. Is there anything? Buck Canada dry when it comes to ginger ale, well, that's a two-ounce shot glass.

Kat: 12:44

Is there anything but Canada Dry when it comes to ginger ale?

Jamie Flanagan: 12:47

We have Vernors. I know, and I figured we'd go with the Canada Dry. I was actually thinking about that. And the other one calls for a lemon-lime soda and I have 7-Up. I thought I had Sprite in the studio, I don't.

Kat: 13:02

I was just thinking like I've never seen another ginger ale like at bars and stuff.

August Gitschlag: 13:10

So for cocktail mixing, I do think Canada Dry is a better cocktail mixing ginger ale. It's not as gingery as the Verner's is. Verner's got more spice. Then you go ginger beer which gets super saccharine and super gingery.

August Gitschlag: 13:27

Some of them can be spicy. If it's a good ginger beer, it's spicy. Yeah, those canned ones that you get a lot of stores do not have the spice that people that ginger beer actually is. It's more sugar, straight sugar. Yeah, um, what's that? There's a one company, goya goya, makes a great two liter of ginger, of ginger beer, but it's really gingery heat but it's a with the airplane.

Jamie Flanagan: 13:47

Betty, bad betty or something like that. There's a betty with the airplane. I don't know, oh we had we have one is a bad betty.

Kat: 13:53

I don't, whatever it is anyway, but uh, just curious, that's a decent interview we want to hear about your college girlfriend.

Jamie Flanagan: 13:59

Okay, that was my nickname at band camp. Alright, so then that's the thing. Then the ice. Then the ice, then the.

August Gitschlag: 14:14

Yeah, I don't know.

David Wright - Motor City Hypno: 14:19

It's messy, it's messy for me.

Jamie Flanagan: 14:23

Darn kids.

Matt Fox: 14:25

Get off my lawn.

Jamie Flanagan: 14:28

So yeah, so there's a whole array of Oz drinks and then so there's a. You can buy the kit, right.

Matt Fox: 14:36

So this kit comes from this company you were referring to A curator.

Jamie Flanagan: 14:40

Yeah, they're like our friends at Shaker and Spoon, right, but there's different ones. Yeah, they're like our friends at Shaker and Spoon, right, but there's different ones. So they haven't sent us stuff, so there's no need to mention them. But it's the whole kit with the booze. Hey guys, send us a box of that, yeah, and then we'll talk you up like crazy. So where is it? Straight from Oz. Cocktail Kit $150. $169.99. $159.99.

August Gitschlag: 15:06

I don't remember one from Shaker and Spoon that cost that much.

Jamie Flanagan: 15:09

These come with the booze in it. It's got 350 or 375 milliliter.

August Gitschlag: 15:14

I'll let you all finger bang your own fruit. Sorry to interrupt, you can do mine.

Jamie Flanagan: 15:21

I was looking forward to the special German flair. Never mind, I was looking forward to the special German flair form.

August Gitschlag: 15:26

I'm not going to use my thighs, I'll use my fingers. Baby want to do mine.

Jamie Flanagan: 15:33

And it comes with the sodas and everything.

Kat: 15:35

So yeah, you can get a whole kit to do like five or six of these, I'm going to get one for Jamie. What, oh, like five or six of these, I'm going to get one for Jamie.

August Gitschlag: 15:49

Passing the spoon. The sound of stirring should be filling your podcast.

Jamie Flanagan: 15:53

It's stirring away. So it's really just Jameson's and ginger. It's straight up, but it's an Oz ginger. Wouldn't be the first time. You know why it's an Oz ginger, because that's what it's straight up, but it's an Oz, james, it's an Oz ginger Wouldn't be the first time.

August Gitschlag: 16:05

You know why it's an Oz ginger, because that's what it's called.

Jamie Flanagan: 16:08

Oz ginger and lime. Well, it's got the green lime right. Yeah, that's why I put the green lights in the studio today. I was like, oh, we'll do a very Emerald City, look about it.

Matt Fox: 16:17

So I'm surprised that there isn't a drink in this box, in what they have. That doesn't refer to a monkey, because the monkeys were actually not in Wicked. They're in the movie.

August Gitschlag: 16:30

Now I can't watch it. I've been having nightmares about those fucking monkeys until I was seven years old. I'm not kidding. The monkeys were not in the play hey hypnotist guy. You know, this is a real thing, that's a phobia.

David Wright - Motor City Hypno: 16:44

No, I can help you with that. Sorry I cut the line.

August Gitschlag: 16:47

It's funny but Dave does therapy and stuff like that. So this has been recurring since I was a child.

Jamie Flanagan: 16:52

The scariest creature, the scariest Chitty, chitty, bang Bang. The child catcher, the candy man.

Kat: 16:59

Oh man.

August Gitschlag: 17:02

That's my nightmare guy do you know who I'm talking about? My, I don't but, I'm gonna add bang bang to movies I won't watch oh, yeah, no, yeah, yeah, no, I have it at night two.

Matt Fox: 17:14

One was god's was and I got king kong ultra man. It was king kong, king kong. Yeah, all right. And my father actually helped me get over that phobia pretty quickly and he gave me a can of old-school Lysol disinfectant and wrapped a paper bag around it and wrote on it King Kong Spray. I'm not able to sleep, so he walks in and he's sharp.

August Gitschlag: 17:35

Lysol's a kid that explains a lot.

Matt Fox: 17:38

He comes in and he's like, if you think you see King Kong, you need to spray this and he'll go away.

Jamie Flanagan: 17:43

Everybody goes away when you spray Lysol.

Matt Fox: 17:45

He goes back to bed and 30 seconds later he and my mother are laying there All of a sudden they hear ssss, ssss, ssss.

August Gitschlag: 17:55

I was at least a lemon one.

Matt Fox: 17:56

So that explains why I am the way I am because of the fumes that were ingested way back in the day, your whole childhood, oh fumes that were ingested way back in the day your

David Wright - Motor City Hypno: 18:05

whole childhood.

August Gitschlag: 18:05

You mentioned Ultraman. That's an interesting one, because as a child, whenever I had to take erythromycin for an ear infection, I would get crazy dreams of things suddenly growing really big and getting really large in front of me. That was a recurring nightmare I used to have in my childhood. I haven't had it since I became an adult.

David Wright - Motor City Hypno: 18:21

I guess that's a bad thing.

August Gitschlag: 18:26

Things get really nice. Yes, medicine made things grow really big in my head.

Matt Fox: 18:30

The second one was Michael. Jackson turning into a werewolf. I still have a problem with that I still have a problem with that, when he says go away, and his eyes are big and yellow. Are we on today's show or our show?

David Wright - Motor City Hypno: 18:42

Oh, let me tell you my fear, then. The one that blew me away was the old Salem's Lot miniseries on TV, when the kid was floating in the window. I had nightmares about that for a long time you were 20. No, that was no, that might have been 18. Thanks.

August Gitschlag: 19:01

Alright, so been 18.

David Wright - Motor City Hypno: 19:03

All right, a lot better.

Jamie Flanagan: 19:05

Thanks, all right, so that was Ed's Yummy.

Kat: 19:08

Cheers to the wonderful world of.

August Gitschlag: 19:10

Oz and happy birthday.

Jamie Flanagan: 19:12

Oh and yes, Matt just celebrated a milestone birthday, Half a century folks. Oh good, Lord man, how does that?

August Gitschlag: 19:19

happen to a fellow right.

Jamie Flanagan: 19:20

It does happen, it happens to the best of us it does.

August Gitschlag: 19:21

It happens to the best of us it does.

Matt Fox: 19:25

It was great. I was surprised with a really nice birthday dinner. I was only anticipating six, seven folks to have dinner. Eighteen people showed up. It was a huge surprise.

Jamie Flanagan: 19:38

They heard Matt was buying. They heard Matt was buying Fresh credit card.

Kat: 19:42

They were not hired.

Matt Fox: 19:45

So that was a nice surprise to me. So thank you, Holly, for the beautiful surprise.

Kat: 19:50

Where did you guys have dinner?

Matt Fox: 19:52

The Alibi and Troy and they didn't like us because there were 18 of us and they're like it's a Saturday night at 530. You guys are, what are you doing?

August Gitschlag: 20:01

Thanks for calling ahead, Jerks.

Matt Fox: 20:03

We did. They still weren't prepared For 18?.

Kat: 20:05

Yeah, oh, okay, if you're going anywhere called the Alibi Inn, come on, man.

August Gitschlag: 20:11

That's a classic dive bar name in every other city in the world and it's a classy joint over there.

Jamie Flanagan: 20:17

Alright, so these Oz-related recipes will be linked in the bio and you can actually buy a kit to to make them home. Get all the extra shenanigans. Now, matt, we're going to do the gladiator. We've got another one coming up. We're going to gladiator. I'm going to go see the gladiator tomorrow.

Jamie Flanagan: 20:32

Yes, and I have seen a grown man naked, and so yeah because you know I that to uh, uh, because I got a couple of my kid. My students will go and review, review movies and I'm like dude, gladiators coming, you want to go see it and I go. So do you like gladiator movies?

Jamie Flanagan: 20:52

I didn't say have you ever seen a grown man naked but I'm like I asked him I go, so, do you like gladiator movies? And he was like just kind of looking at me like what, what are you talking about? There's like I go, but he's a big, big, big, big movie buff, I go, I go. That's a line from airplane.

Jamie Flanagan: 21:09

I go and it's actually I go. It's actually wildly inappropriate. Actually, he's a senior, he's a, he's a, he's a AP kid. He's like super adult and smart. But I'm like, yeah, I go, I go. Yeah, it's from Airplane, I go, it's, it's funny. He says that to a kid in the thing and then I go. He says several other things which get progressively worse through the movie. I go, but it's funny, he goes. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, he goes. I've seen parts of Airplane.

August Gitschlag: 21:37

My dad thinks it's hilarious his dad's like you know our age. Yeah, my mom goes to college. But Gladiators, tomorrow there's another Hilarious Dad's like you know our age. That thing's just funny.

Kat: 21:44

Yeah, my mom, goes to college, tony, ha-ha, funny ho-ho.

Jamie Flanagan: 21:46

But Gladiator's tomorrow. There's another screening of it tomorrow. I'm going to go see and I was like curious, are there any Gladiator-themed cocktails? And Matt, we were able to find some right.

Matt Fox: 22:04

Yeah, we did find some. There's one I want to make just from the picture, but there's just too much work. Well, I'm looking for the one that you want to make, but it's too much work, and I didn't see that one. The one I have in front of me, though, that is the uh, sand and stone, or? Yeah, yeah blood, blood, one right yeah the rage.

Jamie Flanagan: 22:16

A cocktail for gladiator 2 yeah, so it's.

Matt Fox: 22:18

It's appropriately named the gladiator cocktail because of the blood, red and sandy orange hue that the cocktail has and yeah, so makes sense, right, right. So a little poetic license that was taken by uh, by a few folks on this, but it's really the ingredients on this is you got one ounce of amaretto liquor liqueur? I should say, uh, one ounce of peach flavored bourbon liqueur? I should say One ounce of peach-flavored bourbon liqueur.

Jamie Flanagan: 22:45

Now is Southern Comfort peach-flavored.

Matt Fox: 22:48

No, it's just Southern Comfort.

Jamie Flanagan: 22:49

What it's flavored with evil.

Kat: 22:51

Evil-flavored.

Matt Fox: 22:53

Then you have an ounce of orange juice and an ounce of lemon-lined soap, or is there a peach-southern Comfort?

Kat: 23:00

Oh, because it does suggest Southern Comfort. As. Oh, because it does suggest Southern Comfort, as it says one fluid ounce peach-flavored bourbon liqueur, such as Southern Comfort.

Matt Fox: 23:08

Such as Southern Comfort. What? That's what it says.

Jamie Flanagan: 23:11

And then I had to read the bottle and I'm like I'm not, didn't it bring some?

August Gitschlag: 23:14

Southern Comfort to one of these. Yeah, I brought Southern Comfort to the last one we did at the Wine Garden. Yeah, that's still here.

Jamie Flanagan: 23:23

No, no, you took that home because your dad oh, my dad did enjoy it.

David Wright - Motor City Hypno: 23:26

It wasn't me this time.

August Gitschlag: 23:28

Yeah, well, you can take the Southern Comfort anytime, dave, by the way. This is the first and last time you guys are ever going to have me bartending for you on my knees. Just so you know.

Kat: 23:37

All right.

Jamie Flanagan: 23:39

I didn't think this through you guys. I didn't think this through, not Count Cat. I was still working out the kinks here with the Emerald City setup today. All right so what are our?

August Gitschlag: 23:55

this is another non-shaken drink, right?

Matt Fox: 23:57

It's a stir. It's a stir drink.

Jamie Flanagan: 23:59

It's one, it's one, one, one, one, one right.

Matt Fox: 24:01

It's all ones. So one, one, one, one, one right, it's all ones.

Jamie Flanagan: 24:03

One of the amaretto, one of the Start with the studded cover, because we have the least amount of that.

Matt Fox: 24:10

So one, one, one.

Jamie Flanagan: 24:13

There's a single shot shot glass down there someplace. There's a. There's one with the measures on it. No, not the pie glass, there's a small. There you go.

Matt Fox: 24:27

Yeah, I have an honest say I'm sorry when you sent this to me earlier, jamie, because you were doing a lot of homework for this episode. I was excited about the movies. I was reading this. I'm like that looks really interesting. I'm super excited to try it.

David Wright - Motor City Hypno: 24:43

I'm excited to see the movie too.

Jamie Flanagan: 24:45

I have high hopes, but I'm afraid they may be dashed.

David Wright - Motor City Hypno: 24:50

Nothing but great so my question, jamie, is you said you have passes. Do you get these preview passes? How does that come about? Do you have some inside information, something that you could share with us, to get it?

Jamie Flanagan: 25:05

I'm a very, very famous media personality in the Metro Detroit area.

Jamie Flanagan: 25:12

I used to be somebody. Yeah, back when I was on talk radio and doing the animal talk on the talk radio, I got on the list and then I was at DVD for ever in a day and I stayed on the list and when I left DVD they kept me on the list. I do a lot of stuff with the PR firms, with my student journalists we bring you know. I help them when they're like hey, I need a bunch of kids to do this or hey, can you share this with teachers there? They ask me for stuff and I keep doing it for them. So they keep me on the list for stuff. And, um, yeah, when I could share the love, I tried to you did, uh, you, I.

Matt Fox: 25:50

I was able to go with you to a preview. Uh, top gun, maverick. Yeah, that was fun else something awful.

Jamie Flanagan: 26:02

It might have been a Will Ferrell piece, I don't know, something along those lines. So it was comedy. It was a comedy of some ilk.

Matt Fox: 26:10

It's fun because there's a lot of things that they do for those previews, those screenings, because, for Maverick, you download the QR or hit the QR code, answer a few questions and it would give you, for Maverick, your call sign. So my call sign was Mastermind. I'm like you got it all wrong. Well, thank you for that.

August Gitschlag: 26:34

First name Jack.

Matt Fox: 26:37

Or Jake, one of the two.

Jamie Flanagan: 26:39

So, blunze, there's another. I'll post these recipes and these sites in the website as well, but I like this Rage, a cocktail for Gladiator 2. But you get into these and it's like who has the time to do that? So it's four ounces of vanilla fig syrup Vanilla fig syrup.

August Gitschlag: 27:01

Who has vanilla fig syrup?

Jamie Flanagan: 27:02

That sounds like a lot of time in their hands is what they, and then four ounces somewhere in portland of black seal rum so, oh, it's, that's gonna.

Jamie Flanagan: 27:14

It's just crazy, yeah. So I was like what am I hearing? A seismic um. So it's, here's how you make. And then they give you the recipe for the vanilla fig syrup Two cups of diced figs, a half cup of brown sugar, two cups of water and a teaspoon of vanilla extract. Dice the figs into small pieces. Add them to a medium saucepan, add brown sugar, vanilla and water. Stir, combine, muddle figs, cook on high.

Jamie Flanagan: 27:39

That sounds like a dessert To a boil Simmer for 30 minutes Stir cook on high. That sounds like a dessert To a boil simmer. For 30 minutes stir regularly remove from heat. Once the syrup is thick and strained through mesh, it's like oh my gosh, the cocktail looks fantastic.

David Wright - Motor City Hypno: 27:53

I want a drink, not to make dinner, I know.

Jamie Flanagan: 27:57

That's when the odds it was like it was Jameson's and ginger.

Kat: 28:00

I'm in there's four.

August Gitschlag: 28:05

Seven, seven up, seven up yep yep, that looks good already it's all one, one, one it's got a really nice layer to it. It's very sunsety.

Jamie Flanagan: 28:13

So there's uh, I see what the blood and sand yeah really has that.

August Gitschlag: 28:19

Look to it right up with the ice in first Blood and sand.

Kat: 28:23

Gladiator was all over Times Square. I bet it was the entire, every TV screen, every ad was all Gladiator More than Wicked when we were down there.

Jamie Flanagan: 28:34

That's surprising. Yeah, okay, all right.

Matt Fox: 28:36

When we were down there, fortnite was doing some type of release and I guess Snoop Dogg is part of the new release for Fortnite and they had blocked off four blocks of Times Square so Snoop could perform in.

August Gitschlag: 28:46

Times Square, so we had to walk around.

Matt Fox: 28:49

Yeah, it was wild.

Kat: 28:52

He literally is on every, he must sponsor.

Matt Fox: 28:54

He's an.

Kat: 28:54

American sweetheart.

Jamie Flanagan: 28:56

Yes, he is. Yes, you stir, we're stirring, stirring the pot, august is stirring the pot. So yeah, I didn't think this through. I should have maybe had you sit here and mix up here but I got my computer up here, yeah you're good. Thanks, Jimmy. So there's another Gladiator website that goes through. I sent you a second email Gladiatorcom. That is the one.

Kat: 29:26

All grown men. It goes character that could be questionable.

Jamie Flanagan: 29:28

also, it goes character by character. So, maximus, his drink is a shot and a beer. And then Lucia is the Bellini. Marcus Aurelius is gin and tonic. I like the explanation on this. The Marcus Aurelius A good drink for someone who has experience with alcohol, has good enough wisdom to know exactly what he wants from a drink.

Matt Fox: 29:54

This is a All right.

August Gitschlag: 29:55

I'm going to sit down again, Cheers everybody To our glassware sponsor, Firebird Tavern.

Kat: 30:00

Thank you. Firebird Tavern. Yes, yes, yes, cheers, cheers, see their little Christmas nook they built.

August Gitschlag: 30:07

They built a Christmas nook in the Troy location. Yeah, yeah yeah.

Kat: 30:11

The outdoor space looks really cute.

Matt Fox: 30:14

My daughter and I just stopped at the Troy location last week for dinner.

Kat: 30:17

Yeah, it's good, always good.

Jamie Flanagan: 30:20

Okay, yeah, I like that a lot. Because Southern Comfort has a sweetness to it.

August Gitschlag: 30:28

Well, the Serrano is, come on Amaretto's guilty pleasure, delicious, you know Okay. There's enough citric acid to get rid of the Southern Comfort yeah.

Kat: 30:39

The Serrano was definitely something I would steal at the age of 17 from my parents. The Amaretto, though, it was always in there.

Matt Fox: 30:47

The Amaretto that's in here. It's almost creamy, it's.

August Gitschlag: 30:49

De Serrano.

Matt Fox: 30:50

De Serrano they advertise separately.

August Gitschlag: 30:53

They want to be different.

Matt Fox: 30:55

But that has got a nice feel to it.

August Gitschlag: 30:58

They also have the best Christmas packages. Oh yeah, with the glasses and stuff. De Serr have the best christmas back packages.

Jamie Flanagan: 31:03

Oh yeah, like with the glasses and stuff that they saw the best class. Well, those, uh, that one was woodford reserve.

August Gitschlag: 31:06

Uh, glass over there that's a good time for alcoholics to go shopping it is really why would you look at the bar? When I worked at whiskey, we told them they would literally do this. It would only buy the retail holiday packs for the exact same price as the bar packs and they'd reload on tons of glasses.

Kat: 31:27

I think I could easily replace a mimosa with this, Because I'm not a huge Champagne's. Okay when it's going down, but later I'm like headache.

Jamie Flanagan: 31:38

Yeah, I'm curious what the after effects on this fella will be with the Southern Comfort in it.

Matt Fox: 31:44

How was that French 75 at Grand Central?

August Gitschlag: 31:47

Perfect.

Kat: 31:49

I had the espresso martini and it was probably the best one I've ever had. Oh, wow.

Jamie Flanagan: 31:54

Honestly, I was a little jealous of that too.

August Gitschlag: 31:58

We had no plans on having a drink in Grand Central Station.

Matt Fox: 32:01

We were just kind of walked in to go.

August Gitschlag: 32:02

Oh look, this grand central station yeah, I'm a tourist yeah, where's? Where's kevin mccallister running around? I'm like, wow, this looks like a really charmingly christmas decorated bar. Let's go check it out. Sure enough, and like I said, the prices were four dollars more than the same drinks in detroit okay, that's, that's especially was was 18 instead of 14.

Jamie Flanagan: 32:24

Yeah, Okay, fine, I would expect to pay 18 bucks for a cocktail in Manhattan or Nueva York.

August Gitschlag: 32:30

That just means that I shouldn't be paying 14 in Detroit. No.

Jamie Flanagan: 32:36

Yeah, that is kind of the issue. Alright, so this is nice, this is a nice whiskey drink. I like how you said it. I will not call.

Matt Fox: 32:43

this is nice. This is a nice whiskey drink. I like, catherine, I like how you said.

August Gitschlag: 32:44

I will not call us a whiskey drink. No, this is a whiskey in it. No, it is not whiskey in it. I can see this from the cupboard. It's not a whiskey, it's not a mimosa, it does not claim to be.

Jamie Flanagan: 32:53

We had that when we did the ankle thing and you brought that in, not a whiskey. Never mind, strike the whiskey cocktail. This is a nice boozy cocktail.

David Wright - Motor City Hypno: 33:06

It would be interesting to mix this up with a whiskey.

Jamie Flanagan: 33:15

With a real whiskey.

David Wright - Motor City Hypno: 33:17

I think that would be good too.

Jamie Flanagan: 33:18

Jameson with a little Crown Royal peach.

August Gitschlag: 33:19

Sorry, matt, I was allergic to the idea, I know. If only we had some whiskey to put in this.

Matt Fox: 33:25

Yeah, oh, there it is.

Kat: 33:27

If only we had some Small collection.

August Gitschlag: 33:29

There's like six gallons of Buffalo Trace right across from us right now. There is, there is. I bought the big one.

Jamie Flanagan: 33:35

You know you got to go big or go home, but we were preview, previewing Whiskey in the Winter. Yes, there's a big event coming up with Whiskey in the Winter the Detroit Shipping Company With.

Matt Fox: 33:46

Metro Times yeah.

Jamie Flanagan: 33:48

It is, I think, backboned by the Metro Times. We'll be down at the Shipping Company. There's a new podcast studio reopening, opening, reopening inside the Shipping Company.

August Gitschlag: 33:59

We might be familiar with that space.

Matt Fox: 34:02

Old Stopping Grounds maybe.

August Gitschlag: 34:04

A new name.

Jamie Flanagan: 34:05

It's Detroit Podcasting Company inside the Detroit Shipping Company. So, yeah, so we'll be inside of that location dragging people in. Tickets are available. So what's going on with the? Yeah, what kind of booze do they?

August Gitschlag: 34:20

have. They have a decent whiskey list. It really is a whiskey tasting, so we've been to some of these. What was the one we went to at the Packard Plant.

Jamie Flanagan: 34:27

Or the Packard Proving Grounds I forget what it was called.

August Gitschlag: 34:31

But there was like three known commodities and a whole bunch of distributors trying to get you to try their stuff, and so the lines were huge at anything you knew and the rest were just nothing. And I'm like, alright, okay, this has got a stacked lineup. I mean I can tell you, you go through this thing. We got, you get the sample. Eagle Rare Buffalo Trace EH Taylor Weller's Antique 107. Now you gotta show me a color of the label on that one. That one's green.

Matt Fox: 35:02

I believe, is that green.

Jamie Flanagan: 35:05

It's either red or green.

Matt Fox: 35:06

The Antique 107 is either dark green or dark red, green, red blue orange and white yeah, I've had the ball.

August Gitschlag: 35:12

The black is a 12. Thanks to my friends at Bourbon Shores. Yeah, blantons, which look, everyone's had Blantons. Now the bang for the buck, in my opinion, this isn't there. Stag Jr Really I knew his dad. That's spicy.

Jamie Flanagan: 35:27

That's a spicy meatball, that's a spicy meatball.

August Gitschlag: 35:30

McKellen, harmony.

Matt Fox: 35:32

Is that a whiskey with? Or?

August Gitschlag: 35:33

without an E or not? Is that an E or a Y? That's a scotch, mckellen, scotch. It's a collection three Minor Case. That's one of those ones that I've not had. I will get in line for those rabbit hole, rabbit with one b. Yes, rabbit hole is that that we're going down?

Matt Fox: 35:50

right now there are two b's yeah, well, yeah, there were two b's. We've had them on.

Jamie Flanagan: 35:55

We had them on during edwards, so that was pre-me yeah, pre -me.

August Gitschlag: 35:59

Yeah, pa, pre-august PA. Yeah, wilderness Trail Rye sounds familiar and somehow, because the distributor is sponsoring it, we get a couple of Herodora tequilas, which I'm a big fan of. Yeah, my favorite house tequila is the Herodora brand. I think it's phenomenal that and Himador, we get Bardstown Silver Oak collaboration Really looking forward to that. Bartstown Silver Oak collaboration Really looking forward to that. Another thing you can't really get very often the Bartstown? Yeah, you don't see those in bars, you have to go to a specialty place like Butter Run to get that.

Jamie Flanagan: 36:29

And our friend Brian Gluth is representing Bartstown now. Oh, the old Forrester guy Yep, he's the Bartstown guy now.

August Gitschlag: 36:37

Look at the oils. Look at the way they put ice cream in. Yeah, he's great. He was a very good lesson in whiskey drinking.

Jamie Flanagan: 36:48

We're going to hang out with Brian inside the podcast studio there. Here's a nice thing about Whiskey in the Winter Tickets are like $40. Wholly reasonable. And then the advanced VIP you get in like an hour hour and a half early and you get to try the best of the best without a long line, and that's $65. And you get like two extra tickets. So you get like 10 tastes instead of. And then there's five different food kiosks inside the Detroit Chipping Company and they're all giving away food.

August Gitschlag: 37:16

Whoa, yeah, they're giving away tastes. Is it meat on sticks? Probably Nice.

Jamie Flanagan: 37:21

I love meat on sticks Probably Nice I love meat on a stick, so, yeah, so there's a burger place in there.

Matt Fox: 37:26

I know I'm with you, august, I got you.

David Wright - Motor City Hypno: 37:28

The one thing I miss about being down there doing a podcast was getting my tie roll from Bangkok.

Kat: 37:33

I was just going to say that.

David Wright - Motor City Hypno: 37:34

The pad tie roll, the pad tie roll, the pad tie roll, my favorite thing in the world.

Kat: 37:44

And you can't get it at the regular Bangkok After you, cat Tyrell.

Jamie Flanagan: 37:46

So yeah, that was the first thing I had when I went down there. I've been doing First Fridays down at the Detroit Shipping Company with Radio Cobra Detroit and our funky Midnight Funk Revisited doing funk nights down at the shipping company too, so it was the first night I went down there.

David Wright - Motor City Hypno: 38:01

What kind of nights were those? Jamie Funk, midnight Funk oh too. So the first night.

Jamie Flanagan: 38:03

I went down there. I got a. What kind of nights were those? Jamie Funk.

David Wright - Motor City Hypno: 38:04

Midnight funk. Oh okay, I misheard you, I'm sorry.

Jamie Flanagan: 38:07

Midnight funk revisited.

August Gitschlag: 38:10

No one's dancing to punk. Oh, I thought you thought you heard. Oh, okay, never mind.

Jamie Flanagan: 38:15

All right, so the Woodford Reserve. The first time I tried this was at. This is the Double Oaks.

Matt Fox: 38:24

Yeah, I'm looking at that bottle going. Why is that in this room?

Jamie Flanagan: 38:29

How can I sneak out with it?

David Wright - Motor City Hypno: 38:32

It's a leader too. Don't worry, I'll take it yeah you will Running joke. Too soon, David, too soon. I'm still scarred by you taking that bottle. It's been like six months.

Jamie Flanagan: 38:49

Too soon. It's been way more than six months, buddy. But I, I, you know, I've, I've had this a couple times, the the double oak, but I, I first tried it at a whiskey tasting because I had never tried it before and I was, and I found something that I loved. I found something I really, really liked. All right, do we have a nice thing? Do we have?

August Gitschlag: 38:59

regular woodford here. No, this is only appreciated next to regular woodford. It's a, it's a. Otherwise, to me it just tastes like a. A nice, you have to have these a lot. Same thing with the barrel picks. Yeah, all these barrel picks, you have to side by side them. I do enjoy this. I don't think that it's. I've had it before. Uh, it was a. Recommended to me by a bartender in a dive bar in Warren who had it. She's like you got to try this double-oaked. I'm like all right, I had it Next week. I'm like do you want the double-oaked again? I'm like only if you give me the regular Woodford next to it. I'm like, oh, there is a difference. This is better.

Jamie Flanagan: 39:35

I'm going to crack it. Woodford is so good, I'm going to pop it. Woodford is great.

August Gitschlag: 39:42

Really nice whiskey to sip on.

Jamie Flanagan: 39:44

So you realize the whole point is the appreciation for this comes side by side. It really does no, give it a sniffy sniffer.

Kat: 39:53

I like that. It looks like a maple syrup.

Jamie Flanagan: 39:57

There you go.

Kat: 39:58

Did you smell the?

August Gitschlag: 39:58

microphone.

David Wright - Motor City Hypno: 40:00

You all heard me sneeze.

August Gitschlag: 40:01

a minute ago I was primed for that sniff.

Jamie Flanagan: 40:02

All right, you're bartending, so we got you.

Matt Fox: 40:08

I'm too far away from everything.

Jamie Flanagan: 40:10

There's another Glen Karen down there, dave, if you want to know the guy's going to take it in plastic.

August Gitschlag: 40:15

What a man.

Matt Fox: 40:16

I'm not a man it's got such a great nose on it.

Kat: 40:21

Oh, it's already 8 o'clock, you can give him the fancy glass, if you want.

August Gitschlag: 40:25

No, you can give him the fancy glass. Okay, because you're going to hate, it.

Kat: 40:27

For the teeth or the gums.

Jamie Flanagan: 40:30

Yay, thank you, all right.

August Gitschlag: 40:33

So yeah, there's a smell on this. Have you had it before?

Jamie Flanagan: 40:35

Have you had it before? I have yeah.

Matt Fox: 40:38

Matthew, have you had it before? Yes, yes, sir, and it's a beautiful nose. You've never had this. Ho ho ho, you're in for a treat, young man.

Jamie Flanagan: 40:49

It's a very, it's quite the bouquet. There's a lot going on in the nose. Did you win this leader or?

August Gitschlag: 40:55

maybe hit a scratch off lottery ticket when you were walking out of Wine Garden. No, you came out with a half gallon of Woodford Reserve double oaked.

Jamie Flanagan: 41:02

I mean, I wanted to talk about something that I found at a whiskey tasting that and there's a good reason to go. All right, it's a good reason to go to a whisking tasting, you find something that you're enamored with. So because you can try it, right. And then you're like I'm going to do that again, right. So it's, I'm going to marry that one, I'm going to marry that one, I'm going to take it home, right? So the area MFK with whiskey kill Mary, screw yeah.

August Gitschlag: 41:29

So I said I'd marry this again, and you did.

Jamie Flanagan: 41:31

I might've overpoured you honey, I'm sorry, that's not that much smaller.

Kat: 41:37

No, I know. Did you just make some medicine there.

August Gitschlag: 41:45

Augustus it got really big.

Matt Fox: 41:47

Here's the fun thing about the double oat you put your nose in it. You're like, wow, I feel like that's going to be really hot. Oh yeah, yeah, it's going to have a nice warmth. It doesn't. It's not killing me, no, no, it might be because we've had Amaretto or Disorno and Jameson. We did have a whole bunch of sweet stuff We've done.

Jamie Flanagan: 42:05

Yeah, that's nice. I just enjoy that.

August Gitschlag: 42:08

Look at this what was that last drink we just had?

Kat: 42:10

Oh, yeah, now you can.

Jamie Flanagan: 42:14

So Kentucky, straight, Bourbon, finished in a second oak barrel. 90.4 proof Double oak Woodford Reserve. Double oak barrel finished. Select I like it. 90.4 proof double-oaked Woodford Reserve double-oaked barrel finish select. I like it Too much, sweetness Too much.

August Gitschlag: 42:29

I put a little bit of this in there with the Serrano and the, we only had some whiskey that Jack Daniels probably would have been a better call, something a little harsher. To be honest with you, because the sugar.

David Wright - Motor City Hypno: 42:45
